Oh! Ok now I get it PJS - I though those were seriously beefy cats LoL.
So you chopped out your side mufflers and replaced them with 2 'centres' - nice thinking. Did you need to remove anything (back internal bumper?) to make it fit? I take it that's the 996-3 you sold. Those must weigh about 50% of the stocks and you've shed side weight and heat near the tires - perfect. You say elsewhere that it weighs 30 lbs and gave you 20hp+ w/o ecu work - nice outcome! How did it sound? db levels comparable to the stock x cats?

HiWind,
That pic was the almost finished product from my 04 GT3. Yes, it made the power and TQ as previously mentioned. PJS and I share the same pipe builder. And yes it was light wt and very loud. It was louder than my RS with exhaust by same builder.

Did they make a jig of it (for reproduction) or build it on the car ?

RSS X pipe doesn't add HP on a 997 GT3 - but the sound is pure bliss.............

Cheers D-Über - nice idea; didn't realize there was enough space for that. No melting/deform after 1-2hr hard driving on the bumper?

onelove: Charles (PJS and my builder buddy) uses a jig only for basic design then finishes with build on the car if available.

HiWind: Thanks, fit and finish (when completed) was very nice, including the huge angle cut black powder coated tips. Did not experience any heat/fit/distortion issues under hard use. The Burns mufflers likely ran cooler than the thick heavy OEM 400 cell cats.

Charles has now custom built an exhaust system for PJS 996 GT3 and current 997 Mk1 RS. He has also built a system for my 996 GT3 and current 997 Mk1 RS. In all 4 builds they have made more power, TQ at about a 1/3 of the weight. I think I can speak on behalf of PJS that we are satisfied with our Charle's work and finished product.

Same builder as above is working on this prototype (made of lower quality material in pic) for fitment and dyno tests. Made 25 whp from 5500-7000 and 20 whp everywhere else. Will be made of 321 stainless steel and weigh 30 pounds total.
Will post when final exhaust is finished and tested on car.

Thanks for sharing folks - so the replacement mufflers look to be 50% of the size of the OEM - are they alot louder 4porsch or PJS? Have you measured with Db meter, or just by the blackness of the neighborhood nanny's stare?

How bout a vid/sound clip under power?

This is going to Sound SICK!!!!!!!!!!!! I drove a car with a similar setup on it when I was shopping, Despite the car not being for me in the end I almost couldn't get out of it at the end of the test drive I loved the exhaust sooooo much.

can not speak on how load or style of sound as it's not on my car yet. I am stoked about no power or tq loss with actual test showing gains. The best part is shaving 70 pounds off the rear.
The builder is happy with the results. I have been very patent on this build and it will be worth it.
