hey John (911slow),
I'm really curious...what makes you like the mk1? I love the car but its so far and between before I find someone that appreciate it as much as I do.
Almost everybody likes the newer and faster cars. Don't get me wrong but I love new cars too...great example of a new car that puts all the best technologies available to good use is the 458, I got to try it on track recently and damn its so good! The 991 gt3 will definitely be a great car if porsche does it right, hope it beats the 458

older cars have more feel.
newer cars have more speed.
i think the 6.1 was the time that they got feel/speed done right in a 50/50 mix.
if you're going to compete for money, then of course you need the latest, but if you want to have personal fun, then nothing wrong with being 5 seconds slower than the next charlie. results and numbers play too much a role in our unnecessarily competitive world/nature.

Do you have to jump thru hoops to get a ROW 6mk1 or ROW 6mk2rs if u don't plan on registering it/DOT certification etc.? I would love to have a mk26rs for just track DE days. Mike

I would like to understand why and how MK1 is so different to our MK2s - aren't they pretty much the same car ? MK2 comes with a glove box, better brakes, more HP and always a dual mass fly wheel. Rumor has is that MK1 engines had a hard time reaching the promised 360 HP whereas MK2 were measured constantly above 380. So don't start swapping your MK2s just yet

Race Car
the little engine that could
same thing said by a few 997RS (now) guys at my track who started off with the MKI 996 Clubsport. And Jimmy's also got it right from what they'e explained to me while I was researching my purchase, except for one thing ... this MKI in the hands of a very competent and aggressive drier is always near the front and ahead of more than a couple 997-3s and 6 RS's (inc mine) and get this:
its got 86,000 km on its little engine! And that's after 5 seasons in the hands of its 3rd owner. Note all 3 tracked it and so less than 10k of those kms were on road!!
The driver almost wants it to break so he can put in a 3.9 ... but it just doesn't.
To be fair the car is light now - doors, hood, decklid, window etc... - has a 7 cup wing, dive planes, no interior, chipped (didn't help he claims) but is otherwise its pretty much stock
From what I've seen first hand and heard from the owners you can't go wrong w a MKI especially if it not just for track (ie vs bigger engines). It blazed the trail and blew away expectations and will always be remembered and respected for that.
WOW Canberra Mike - she's a serious beaut and upgraded nicely too. Have you been daily driving with the front roll cage in? How do you find that?

Thanks HiWind. Yep have been daily driving with full cage other than side bars. Creaks a bit and is a bit of a pain to get in and out of. Even have the FE in. Just bought a Cayenne Diesel that arrives next week to tow my race car and drive to work so happy to shift the GT3 if the right offer comes my way. I will not be disappointed if it doesn't sell as it is the best car I have ever owned.
