Dyno Results
#46
Hey Ian,
I'm going to give this a try too. So it looks like there are 4 bolts attaching the oil filter housing, plus 1 additional bolt attaching it to a bracket that cannot be seen in the pic. Does this sound right? Will the housing slip out from there or is there something else to consider? The rest looks pretty straightforward. Let me know. Many Thanks

I just found this. Here's the dyno plot that IPD advertises on their website for the plenum plus throttle body mod. Notice they also see a shift in the torque curve to earlier peaks, and peak hp is reached earlier. My results are quite similar to what they advertised.

I installed the IPD plenum and the 997 throttle body a couple months ago on my '04 GT3.... the plenum would not fit past oil filter console no matter how I tried... so the engine was lowered a couple inches and then no problem.

Yes the oil filter housing has to come off (unless you lower the motor, which I did not do). Best to do this job at the same time as an oil change. Drain oil and pull out the oil filter before you unbolt and remove the housing. A bit tight to access the housing bolts (there are 3 of them) but I managed it fine. Luckily for me the 3 bolts weren't that tight. There are a couple of brackets that are connected to the housing, it's pretty straight forward to figure out what comes off. Once the housing is out the plenum will come out easy. You can see the parts that needed removal in my photo on page 1.

You can get the plenum on without removing the oil filter housing and without dropping the engine. Requires going in at an angle and then pulling back into position before sliding the rubber boots. Took about an hour to install throttle body and plenum.

Below is dyno overlay when I was having stalling issues due to a bad map. In the process of problem solving I replaced the throttle body thinking this may have been a problem factor, upgraded to 82mm and matching IPD plenum with 997 larger MAF housing and connector tube as per Serge's build.
Green is after map was removed and with plenum & 82mm throttle
Red is Pre map
Blue is with map running lean
There is a marginal lower down torque increase, peak torque was actually down. This apparently mirrored 911slow's results.

386whp on a dyno dynamics setup is pretty stout. Aren't they know as "the heartbreaker" because they read much lower than other dyno'S?

I have no horse in the race on this but if anyone wants an IPD plenum and throttle body for their 996 GT3, i have one that is just about brand new which I will let go for half of cost. I do not frequent this forum but I can be reached at 604 253 6586. Ian has seen it so it's not a phantom part

Okay here's an update on my thread. As previously discussed, my car originally made 345rwhp at 262ftlb (FVD headers, Europipe exhaust, FVD tune). I installed the IPD intake plenum and 997 GT3 throttle body and made 362rwhp and 285ftlb (+17hp and +23ftlb).
I've now had the cats removed, and retested it yesterday (same Dynapack dyno). She's now up 375rwhp and 294ftlb (+13hp and +9ftlb). As shown below, it gained a healthy amount of power everywhere with the cats removed. Total gain is +30hp and +32ftlb.
The car feels awesome and I'm very pleased. It's still running conservatively rich, a/f ratio is 12.0:1 at the top end. Could definitely see a few more ponies with a less conservative tune (would prefer to see about 12.5 to 12.7:1 a/f ratios).
