Another LWFW/Clutch Question
GT3 Gurus,
did some research here but couldn't find a satisfying answer. I'm upgrading to the LWFW (u guys keep praising it ! ) and want to find out if I can reuse my current clutch (car has 9k miles) or if I need to install the RS clutch (996 116 015 32). I know that PP between RS and GT3 is the same. What about the clutch disc - is it common between the two cars and if no does a RS flywheel require an RS clutch disc.
THX, Murat

I asked this same question and got very few replies but John (911 SLOW) chimed in and helped me out. My understanding is that that you can re-use your stock clutch and pressure plate. I'm in the same boat with the clutch / PP in my car only having 6200 miles on them. I'm also trying to sacrifice as little driveability as possible with the new flywheel and didn't want an agressive clutch / PP combo.
You'll still need the flywheel, ring gear for the starter and new hardware all around. Might as well do the updated lightweight pulley too while you're in there too.
How's the DIY engine pull coming? You started yet? I'm very close to pulling mine apart but we just keep having nice winter days here leading me to drive the darn thing instead of take it apart.

Any reason not to go for the 3.8 lwf/disc 4.0 pp? 3.8 is 9 lbs 6rs/cup is 11 lbs. If I open it again will probably go for that combo unless there's a reason not to. Regards Mike ps- shouldn't be a problem using stock disc. Mike

Mike,
only reason I'm trying to hold on to clutch disc and pp is cost. Parts (and car) have only 9k miles on them and should still be in decent shape. I'm sliding on the slippery slope and already dropping loads of cash on other goodies for my 3 - thanks for the advice

Have orderd the 996 RS FW already - its on its way. Is there a big difference in weight between the 3.8 and 6GT3 FW ? I would probably never feel the difference anyway

Only 2 lb difference. I agree u won't feel ne difference. Our stock fw is a damn brick
I think it's 34 lbs maybe slightly less. More chatter at idle though but not a big deal at all.
Our cars makes funny noises neway- part of the charm : ). Mike

Retail is the same for both. Weight is 3lbs less for the 3.8 unit. Probably splitting hairs at that point. All of them still have 964 part numbers so it's not like we're really dealing with new parts. It was the re-design on the pressure plate on the 3.8 that was the disaster. I bet the specs on the clutch disks aren't even that much differnt.
