Default Hesitation in power delivery between 3500-4000rpm?

Hi,

Drove to Spa and back this weekend, epic day at Spa with glorious weather.

1 thing I noticed on the long drive there and back. Cruising through 3500-4000rpm I get a hesitation/ boost in acceleration. I was also feeling this accelerating up the Kemel straight at Spa, same rev range location. Bit unsettling as you get that small kick.

Is this possibly a MAF fault or something else, any ideas?, car is a 2004 MKII.

Thanks.

No other symptoms and no other mods to intake. I've just taken MAF out and cleaned it, there was some residue in the rubber housing between airbox and throttle body, looked like oil, MAF was dry. Had a good clean in there anyway, butterfly had no build up which was good to see and inside plenum was dry. I'll test and reply later, oh and MAF was 986 part number, 986.606.125.01, is this right?
Thanks.

Update: So far so good, amazingly acceleration seems smoother and more 'go' too, maybe just placebo effect but the stutter/ hesitation has gone for now... Thanks.

If your MAF is getting dirty, probably wouldn't hurt to change your air filter as well.
