I found it to be a two man job. Some one holds the 24mm wrench over as far as it will go. The other forces the belt back on. Strong fingers required.

I had the bumper off and the cats removed when I changed my belt. I can't imagine this job with everything in place.

It's doable by yourself. The hardest part was sliding it into place past the engine carrier. I may have used a big screwdriver for some leverage to get it on....don't remember.

Have a beer, take a 15 min break, and try again.

I am just trying to get it back on after fixing the top inlet coolant pipe after it blew out. It is so tight to get it over the alternator pulley. Maybe I do need more beer:-)

I use a Snap-On LONG 22/24 straight wrench. Makes the job easy as u need very little pressure on the wrench and can then concentrate getting the belt over the alternator pulley. The wrench is like $100 so you better have other uses for it

Make sure the belt is seated properly on all pulleys. Slide onto the idler pulley last. I used the bolt circled below to move the tensioner IIRC. I don't recall it being a large bolt.

Yep, I removed the tension with the circled bolt. Will try again shortly, not sure-

Back on the road!! Thanks for the tips. Got it by going over the idler pulley last. Didn't do anything different but it seemed to go right on.....

Glad to her it's on. Sometimes you have to use the right combination of words.

Awesome vid FFaust. Reminds me of my first car, I used to advance or retard the distributor based on the type of driving I'd be doing. It had a screwdriver programable ECU.

Old Harleys had one grip for throttle, and the other for timing advance.
