My rearview mirror is lose and there is a metal ring that has popped out of the back of the mirror.

I believe this ring snaps into the back of the mirror and adds tension to the ball joint.

The problem is I asked the dealer to snap it back in and they shattered my windshield. They replaced the windshield at their cost, but the mirror is still unfixed.

Does anyone know the procedure or tool required to pop this back in (without cracking the glass )?
