Default LSD Shot?

Under hard braking the car gets very unstable. Does that mean the LSD is shot? The car only has 16K miles on it and less then 500 of them are track miles. Thanks.

Sure sounds like it. Couldn't late brake at all with the rear wiggling. Simple way is to jack up one rear wheel with ebrake disengaged and some piece of wood in front of front tire so it doesn't rolldown and try turning wheel by hand. If it turns freely more then likely LSD is toast(my guard LSD won't rotate at all). Not the optimal exact way to check LSD which necessitates removing the LSD and open it up. Mike ps- mine expired at the 11k mark.

YES.

Mine did the same thing. Tail wag under hard braking. Now with Guard LSD it's straight as an arrow.

Buy Guard.

For Safety.

I'd check alignment FIRST. With that said, if it is OEM LSD and you go to the track it will be shot (if it isn't already) in no time. Your two best options are the PMNA Cup LSD clutch packs or have Guards rebuild yours. I had the PMNA option installed and loved it. Much cheaper than guards as well.

This is great info Dell. Thanks mine is shot as well .. cos I had my alignment done before going to the track and the tail is definitely not in one place.

How do you compare PMNA to Guards both in terms of performance, reliability and life.

Thanks,
Pochy

I can't compare the Cup withe Guards unit but I'd guess the guards unit will last longer since it is a totally rebuilt LSD not just the clutch discs. With that said, if the PMNA unit is good enough for the cups, then it's good enough for us mere mortals.

I put in the Guard GT2 unit. The thing is a work of art and the most robust.

Thanks, where did you buy it from ... one of the dealers. And did you do the install yourself? What was the price difference?

Regards,
Pochy

IIRC, the Guards unit is several thousand verus the Cup clutch packs which were about $800 installed at my race shop. The extra money with the Guards unit comes from getting a completely new, rebuilt work of art.

FWIW, I think the basic guard re-build is ~1k as long as you're not changing the ramps, that's when it starts to get more expensive. Look for Mike's LSD buster thread I believe the info was in there.
