Default DME report

I'm about to pull the trigger on my first GT3. I had momentum SW in Houston run a VAL to check for any type 1 or type 2 over revs. They said they didn't have the correct software and when they finally got the software, the entire report is in German.

It is about 30 pages and I cannot discern any codes or anything else for that matter.

I have found another dealer who says they can run the DME but they want $80. I have never dealt with Porsche before, so is this a fair price?

Thanks in advance!

I have a durametric and can read the codes. If a dealer can't do it with their equipment, you should probably avoid that dealer...

I bought a Durametric reader years ago ($300?) and have used it to PURCHASE two 911s to date, and PASS on multiple "beaters"... It is a great tool as it supports the Bosch systems from the 964 through today.

When I purchased my CPO '06 997.1 Cab in January, I was surprised how many Porsche sales guys had no clue what a DME read-out was... More often than not, they would respond to my request with a statement like "we can't give you that information for confidentiality reasons"... I learned quickly that escalating to either the sales manager or the service manager quickly remedied that issue...

Good luck!

1681.1 operating hours *roughly equates to 52,000 miles

5923 number of ignitions = type 1 over revs *last at 1661.7 operating hours
134 number of ignitions = type 2 over revs *last at 1501 operating hours

No current fault present as far as I could see.

I attach a pdf with the original equipment of the car. No PCCB and the only extras that I can see are the sport seats in leather and the tinted top of the windscreen.

The VAL is fine, check the car for body damage, inspect the service records, etc.

Good luck.

I am buying the vehicle from someone I've known for over 10+ years. Most of the 57k+ miles are racing miles. He's the second owner and bought the car in late 2006 with 13k miles on the clock. The car was sponsored by Momentum Porsche (the same dealer that couldn't give me the DME and gave me the German read out) for the last 5 yrs and all maintenance was done on their dime.

I am also purchasing a warranty on the car, but my concern is the Type 2 over revs.

The car has not been babied, but has not been abused, from what I can tell. I've spoken to the service manager to all the people who've driven it and all say it's the most over-maintained GT3 they've seen.

I have the full service history of the car since 2004.

In ya'lls opinion, is the Type 2 over-rev a deal breaker?

No. The car has run 180 hours since the last event. If there were issues, they would have been obvious.

I do not think that 134 type 2's should kill the deal.

Did you have compression percentages checked? You should with all those miles.

Many Porsche Dealerships will do the quick check on Type 1 and 2 ignitions for free, as it is no big deal to do so.

Range 1: engine ignitions at electronic limiter

Range 2: engine ignitions over specified rpm

Cumulative total engine ignitions with time of last recording listed in hours. Many GT3 owners believe that the Range 2 ignitions are from anything other than hitting the electronic revolution limiter, typically occurring when the driver shifts into too low a gear and the drive train forces the engine to speed up over the specified limit.

Analysis of possible engine damage from Range 2 is difficult because the maximum rpm value is not recorded. There is a factor of safety between the rpm limit and the actual rpm level where the valves “float” or some other mechanical issue occurs.

The ignition count may seem high but one must take into consideration how quickly they can add up in split second event. For example there are 410 ignitions per second when the engine is operating at 8200 rpm.

Range 2 count for this car should not be a concern.

Thank you all for the help. I'm proud to report that I am finally the owner of a 6GT3! It just sucks that I have to leave town for work tomorrow and won't get to enjoy it till this weekend. Pics to follow, but thank you for all your help and advice, especially 911Slow!
