Default 997 vs. 997 GT3 Shifter

Ok, so I know the shifter upgrade has been beaten to death. I've tried to read them all.

I want to go with ther 997 upgrade w/o the cup cables. Suncoast is selling the standard 997 and the 997GT3 shift assembly. Durability aside, is the GT3 version that much better?

Thanks.

I assume the 997 gt3 shifter is the .2 version- u should get that one- more metal less plastic. Mike

I don't know the differences, but just installed the 997 GT3 shifter...MUCH better (IMHO) than the B&M short shift that was in there.

997gt3 shifter has a slightly shorter throw and has reinforced shift bushings.

i run the 997gt3 shifter, its pretty good.. although i'm starting to like the 997ssk a lot as long as its not notchy which can be the case most cases than not.

I wonder why the Cup shifter has the same throw as the 996 shifter, vs. the 15% shorter throw of the 997 shifter.. you figured that for a race car, the driver would want the shorter throw.. ?!

Did the 997 cupcars had a manual tranny or all started with seq? If just 996 cupcars -that would explain the use of the 996 cup shifter box. There's a chance that since cup cables are so buttery smooth on shifts that shorter throws mite increase your chance of a misshift. My 2 cents. Mike

996 cup 2005 MY was the last one with a manual shifter.
The cup shifter was the racing / reinforced version of the 6 series std shifter.

2006 cups with 7 bodywork went sequential.

Yeah, I understand that only the 996 Cup has manual tranny.. but was just wondering why the engineer didn't think about shorten the throw on the race car part... (since it is quite easy to do if they want to do so..) But then when they design the 997 car, they decide to reduce the throw by 15%..
