I am going to try to sell the car all in. If nobody wants it like that I'll get at least the same amount as the asking price all in by parting it. Cup car tranny, 2 extra sets of wheels, unmounted brand new PSCs, the wing, other bits and pieces. If nobody wants a car like that then those things become available.
I am seeing plenty of interest in the tranny and the wing already.
I feel so smart for buying the wing when I did. Everyone thought it was absurdly priced at the time. It was. But that's one of the few things that actually kept it's value more or less. I wish I could get the same depreciation on the car.

mike, you cannot rebuild our box into a cup box. u need mainshaft, 1-2 gears and external oil cooler. by then, you might as well just buy a cup box. used but refreshed cup box is 10-12k.

cfjan, yes, GT3s have a trans cooler via a heat exchanger controlled by Motronic. They also have a trans oil pump and splash bar. It circulates gear oil and directs oil spray directly to gear load surfaces, including ring and pinion. In addition, shafts are hollow and drilled to lubricate sliding gears. The spray bar + aux oil pump is an old design going back to the 915 trans of the 70's... Lou

parts to replicate your GT3 box to a cup box, with club LSD, 3pc main shaft, 2-4 gears, syncros, ring and pinion will cost ~$8-9k plus rebuild plus install....
and as Mooty says an actual refreshed 996 cup box costs ~$10-12k plus install.
gearing spreads are significantly much tighter on a cup box vs GT3 box.

Yeah, I understand the R&P, gearings are different.. I just thought there's something else.. for example, Mooty mentioned the oil cooler is different.. (larger capacity?) Any other designs that's different.. I guess that's what I was trying to understand..

Pretty much the same external dimensions... but from what I understand, older cup boxes did not come with a cooler,... however by now, those in recent "good" service will have been upgraded with newer (ie 2005) cup coolers.

There is no spacing between gears. 1 and 2 are ok. After that it gets goofy.
With the cup tranny you are constantly shifting. Often have to shift in corner exits.
But the action is so smooth that you can actually do it. Shifting under lateral load is possible in places where regular GT3 gear box at best doesn't go into gear at worst starts grinding.
It takes some time to get used to it. Initially the car will not be faster. But it's a hoot to drive.

That's an understatement.
