Default Weights on Brake Pads? Requirement?

So I've got the GT3 at the shop and they are working on the brakes, looks like the worn down set on there as a set of weights on the pads and the new Pagid's do not. Any danger is running without the weights on the new set?

Apparently the front pads on the car have a small weight on the top. Threw my shop for a loop as much as it threw me as well since the new pads don't have it nor have either of us ever seen that before.

Is is a wheel weight that fell off? I've never seen/heard of brake weights.

Those are weights at the end for vibration dampening purpose that you won't find on race pads... street pads only..

Image below with the weight on the right side removed. This should clear things up a bit.

Great answers guys thanks, my only other question is....is there a way to secure the weight so it doesn't fall off? The other pads had the weights tight and pressed in but this one was loose

remove the weights unless you are seeking what Ford used to tout in the Pinto with epic marketing savvy: Ground Hugging Weight
