Bob motion to order RLs ultimate spec tire.
Who do we hire for the job?
What's our budget?

Grooved R888s may be a decent alternative though. Another guy I know uses them.

I prefer a good street tire when it is too dry for wets. I'd love a tire that sticks like a slick and lasts 250 heat cycles, hell, I'd go for 50! Sigh. Slow has better connections in Europe than I do, I nominate him to negotiate with Pirelli, Michelin and Continental.

Does this mean that I will go in the next tire presentation in Dubai?

R888...one of the last 18" semislick that is offered in wide sizes in Europe

Michelin Cup...much better for dry track driving. Still the best "arrive and drive" type of tire. And that's how we roll in the old continent. Very bad they have discontinued 315 and 345. Have to use only a 295 wide in a heavily modified high power 996TT... Guys with other crazy (fast) cars report similar problems...

This might sound to you like a very pathethic little problem, like it partly is, but come on, this is ridiculous: one could get 8 years ago much better tires than today...what would you say if you had similarly e.g. better brakes or better power available for your car in history rather than today?

P.S. Look at the weights of e.g. 315 and 335 R888 - they are wide but very heavy. Rolling mass...

P.P.S. 911SLOW for EU President instantly if he can get the 315/30/18 Cups back to production!

If you have a need for any of the Japanese tires in the near future you may want to buy now. I bought tires yesterday from a major East Coast Toyo distributor and he was down to 4 R888's 315/30/18 and had to go to another source for the 245/40/18's.

I like them. My car handles well with all 4 tires at 35-36 PSI. When I expand the tire budget to 2 or 3 sets of tires a season I will go with Hoosiers.

And don't forget the 245, 255 fronts.

From the research I did in the past on RL, a guy with a green 997.1 GT3 RS in SF ran NT-01s with NO abs issues.

Mooty would know or confirm.

As it was mentioned, the best alternative is the NT-01 IMHO. Not that I have used it, but friends who used them were very happy, and they seemed to last a bit longer than 888s. Also, as far I know, the NT-01s are the same compound as RA1s with different thread design, all made by Toyo.

You are correct, I've used them, and love them. They are the same compound as the RA-1 and made by toyo
