Removed door panels in prep for a cage
I went to the track on 11/5 and an e36 bmw flipped right in front of me going into the same turn at approximately the same speed as myself.
This was a pretty scary sight to see, and I took a step back and thought about doing hpde and the path that this would lead me. I got home, fell asleep and came to the conclusion I wouldn't track my car any more. Then I went for a drive 3 days later and had that urge to be on the track again.
I was able to rationalize going back to the track if I put safety equipment in my car, such as a full cage, race seats and more instruction.
So I thought I would start parting out the interior, I sold the door panels yesterday and some other bits and pieces.
But now I have to pull the little cable to open the door. I want to keep my windows and motors, is there a way I can put like a piece of sheet metal over this, and rig something up to open the door? Like on the 964 RS.
I just have a 996 C2, but I figured more guys in this section have stripped their cars out more than the regular 996 section.
Thanks in advance!

Cargraphic has such a panel very light and quite expensive.
Another sollution would be to modify the oem panels: remove airbags if you had, keep the outer outline part of them so that it could clipped to the door and replace the center with a sheet of plastic dressed with vinyl, leather etc. DIY
About the opening contact Mooty he has some sort of pull type thing made. Red and nice, like a remove before flight thing : )

Cargraphic developed those for the 996RSC car that won German tuners GP twice beating 600HP GT2 etc.
They wanted the car light but the rules of the race don't allow cars to be stripped. All interior panels should be covered. So they designed these and the lightweight carpet set.
Only a few nuts like us will ever consider buying it, hence the cost to break even : )
Anyway if you are in DIY stuff find a set of cheap plastic door panels keep the upper part that slots in and the outline that clips and make it yourself. Cost will be 1/3 or less.

I build my own on my old 78sc... Used pegboard material (heavy) and black naugahyde from a fabric store. Contact cement held it in place. Thin plywood could also be used as a backing plate. Use original as template. I used an old belt as the pull strap for opening door and a kitchen cabinet door pull. Be creative! I should show you my home made brake cooling backing plates on my 74! Lou
