Default Fabspeed New 996 GT3 Competition Air Intake Released

Fabspeed just released the new Competition Intake for the 996 GT3. The new design is much more aggressive looking and makes an incredible HP and TQ improvement on the car. It is a much faster and simple Intake installation that anyone can do at home in under 30 minutes.

The New Intake Dyno tested on a 2004 996 GT3 made an astonishing 25.78+ HP and 23.5+ ft Lbs. of Torque to the wheels. The car was first tested with our Fabspeed Sport Cats, Maxflo Mufflers, EVOMS ECU tune and the Stock airbox and it put down 350.89 HP and 288.89 Torque to the wheels. After installing the new Intake and running it again, it put down 376.67 HP and 312.39 Torque to the wheels, which was just purely amazing. And some areas like 4500RPM, it made 28.74 HP and 33.52 TQ, so there even bigger gains in some areas.

The New Intake is protected with Carbon Fiber Heat shields to block the hot air from entering the filters. The stock drunk lid has a snorkel and fan on each side which are left alone to allow air to come in directly at the filters for maximum air flow. Remember that the stock air box also links directly to the drunk lid shroud, so any rain that does enter, will penetrate the factory paper air filter just the same or more then our design. Do I recommend this upgrade being used on more sunny days and dry environments, yes it always helps. But just like you, I personally don't like driving my sports car in the rain either, so thats why this is the Competition Air Intake. This new design really opens the car up and just makes a night and day difference in the car.
PM me or email me if you have any questions and the new intake is ready to ship.
I will offering a $35 discount to all Rennlist members until December 1st
thanks,

25+ hp from an air filter? Wouldn't that indicate that the factory Porsche airbox is incredibly restrictive by design? Would they deliberately design such a restrictive intake? Good job, if it truly works that well!

You can't quite read it that way. Looking at the existing mods, the rest of the engine is now set up to handle more airflow. The new air intake setup completes the system.

I'm curious what this new air intake would do on a bone stock engine/ecu/exhaust. My guess.....not too much.

Cheers,

I can decypher those dyno charts. Are those uncorrected or corrected numbers?

This is the kind of crap that drives me nuts! Either advertise the ENTIRE truth to the claims or don't advertise it at all. The writeup is clearly setup in a manner to get you to think it is the airbox giving the 25hp. Not even close.

Willing to bet the farm that there is ZERO increase. Take a stock car, dyno it and then add just the airbox and dyno again. Zilch.

However, I will say that it is a stunning piece of jewelry.

Is it legal to claim something like this?
Just wondering.

I figured that, but, didn't want to diss the mfr., not nice.

The more accurate approach would to do a flow bench test of stock vs. new one. But, that still assumes the stock box isn't letting in enough air. So, I guess you'd have to know how much air the engine can consume, then go from there?

I posted this on another forum a few months ago.

I have some ocean front property in Dallas...

All these claims are wildly exaggerated.

Look at the factory offerings from AM and Porsche, and you can draw your own conclusions. These are factory options, so they cannot throw around HP figures and run the risk of a lawsuit.

I have an AM Vantage V8, with the factory power pack. The stock HP is 380, and the power pack adds 20 HP with all the following modifications, for a total of 400 HP.

“To squeeze out more grunt, the engineers in Gaydon, U.K. employed a reworked induction system based on the unit used by the DBS. The system allows for more air to pass into the engine via valves activated at 5,500 rpm, thus creating further power. Matched to the induction setup is a recalibrated ECU. All told, the dealer-installed power pack raises the car's top speed to 177 mph and slightly decreases the sprint to 60 mph, so say the Aston Martin officials”.

Here is the X51 Power Kit that was offered for 2005-2008 997 Carerra S models. The stock car has 355 HP, and the X51 Kit adds 26 HP, for a total of 381 HP. Again, this was a factory offering.

“For those who crave just a bit more, Porsche also offers the "X51 Power Kit" for the Carrera S that includes revised cylinder heads, a carbon-fiber air cleaner housing, aluminum air intake, modified exhaust manifolds and revised engine control computer programming. Porsche says that's enough to punt output up to 381 hp and drop the 0-60-mph time by two-tenths of a second”.

Dyno results are highly variable, and they can claim before and after numbers, as long as there is a printout of the results. There are so many variables you can adjust, it is impossible to police these claims.

I'm a little surprised at Fabspeed, making such claims. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know there's virtually no realizable gains from an induction system alone on a naturally aspirated engine--- particularly one as well engineered from the factory as the GT3 engine.

I guess we'll see if they have some plausible explanation.

Is there a reason to have a cone filter on the left side. Virtually no incoming air due to fan blocking it. Mike

I hope that it does produce these kind of numbers. By what I can tell it looks as if the sport cats, max flow exhaust, and EVO tune make fair gains. And when you add the new air intake your complete upgrade really works well together with an additional 28 HP @ the wheels on top of the original fair gains. We are looking at approx 442HP at the crank with their full kit. And there is no denying they have the 376RWHP dyno number to confirm that. Nice number in a 6 GT3 platform. That is exciting.

+28.74 hp at 4500 rpm? that's about where the cams shift, but nowhere near max air intake velocity, which is where the stock box would show it's weaknesses, if there were any.

I don't really care if that intake works but ALL the mods that car had BEFORE the intake is CRAP, assuming his dynojet inaccurate and pulls were dine correctly

I have seen more than 30 996 gt3 dyno'd. 7 of which r my own. Ihave NEVER seen a gt3 less than 350 hp at the wheel. I'm talking 100% stock cars

So...... What does their Dyno run mean?

You know those Airline commercials where you are treated like a King? Then you get to the Airport, and reality hits?

It's called Marketing.

This is the biggest issue I have with before and after Dyno numbers. You can manipulate the heck out of them.
