Default 1999 GT3

I came across an ad last night in the kijiji website for someone selling their 1999 GT3 (if I am not mistaken it is the first year of production for these cars). I was briefly tempted to call the fellow up as my gut reaction was "Hey this could be a good car to turn into a track car and then my 993C2 could live out it's life not being abused on the track". But then some common sense came to me. I really am in no position to be buying a 2nd Porsche. If I really wanted a GT3 maybe I should sell the 993 (something I don't want to do yet) and buy something like a 2004 GT3.

Anyway, it's hard to tell but there are things about this car that make me think it is a GT3 clone and not a real GT3 (like the fact that the badge on the lid says "Carrera", the door sills also say "Carrera" and there are rear seats which I always thought GT3s did not have rear seats). But maybe I am just mistaken and I just don't know enough about GT3. Especially the early 1999 iterations.

Here is the ad:

is this a real early GT3 or is it a GT3 clone?

To be fair he's not claiming it's a GT3, only that it has the GT3 bodywork.

Actually, the title of his ad is very misleading: "1999 Porsche 911 GT3 only 6200KM".

The real GT3s still have about 4 years to go before they can be brought into Canada without modification.
