Cool Install Write Up & Pictures; GMG 996 World Challenge GT3 Sport Muffler Set

Bought directly from Fabryce @ GMG. Product Link

Great Customer Service on the sale and follow up. A couple of clamps were left out of the box, those that hold the can sections to the support brace. I checked and rechecked the box and all of the packing material but no go. I contacted Fabryce and he got a set out the same day, over-nighted to me from CA to NC.

The setup was packed very well, and the box was weighed as 24# by UPS.

Upon unpacking, it was apparent that this is a quality made setup. All of the welds look to be done by orbital machine and bends are mandrel.

For the install:
+ reuse the OEM double bolt slip joint clamps
+ reuse the OEM beveled compression clamps for the tips

There were no instructions and the pictures were a little hard for me to look at and translate to orientation. I had done my own exhaust install before on my previous C4S, so I wasn’t going into the project totally blind.

Why not keep the bypass pipes? I’m on the team that really likes the sound of the muffler bypass pipes, but I wanted tips that looked stock, and OEM tips could not be installed on them. This system lets me do that with near-MBPP sound.

I fired it up last night and had it idle for ~5minutes; I like it; its a little more subdued than the bypass pipes; I should have a better idea on sound this weekend.

Looks awesome! Do you have any plans to submit a video sound clip?

Thanks. Maybe at some point, but here is a thread with a video (link), and a video is also on GMGs site; I posted a link at the beginning of my post.

Nice Scott. I always thought about it, but never got around to it. Enjoy your new soundtrack.

....and he did all that work without the use of a certain lift

I feel so left out.

Looks good! Did you have to take the rear bumper off to do the install?!

Nice.. is it significantly louder than stock?!

I don't mind a racier exhaust note, but am afraid of not passing sound limit at track...

I need some more seat time to make that call; I’ve only had it idling in the garage at this point, and it had a nice burble to it; I’ll post back later this weekend.

Your lift has been replaced by a few 2 x 4's...

Good job, Scott... enjoy the journey!

Ha. No, Dell and his lift are much appreciated. I'd have tried to do this over there if I hadn't already tackled my first exhaust job with the C4S.

Now, my first oil change on the GT3 was a whole other matter....

Truth be told, Scott is like a kid on christmas morning when UPS leaves presents at the door and he can't wait to play with them.

Ya, it's significantly louder than stock if it's the same system I had. Right around 102+ db WOT, but there is hardly any drone and it sounds freakin awesome!!!

+1

I just got back from our local coffee & Porsche group usual Saturday morning drive. I can say that the sounds is ~90% of the muffler bypass pipes in tone and volume. Love it
