Well, I have spent a bunch of time conducting searches here on Rennlist. The data seems to be speculative at best. I have found numbers ranging from 500 – 1,100. It’s looking like a definitive list is non-existent.

No idea how to figure out colors. But, as far as numbers, PCNA indicates 959 sold between May 2003 and Oct 2005.
2003: 257
2004: 607
2005: 95
Total: 959

This pretty much matches up with their press releases for those years:

The VIN sequence covers four nations.

Also, looking at the sales data above is good to a point but then it gets fuzzy with Canadian cars. Sometimes, when the sales data came out each month it said including Canada and sometimes it did not say Canada. In addition the 2004 and 2005 model years are all rolled up together in sales data once the 2005 were available. Overlap of 2004 and 2005 MY inventory for sale.

By individual VIN I came up with slightly more that 1,000 of the 2004-2005 North America Spec 996 GT3.

could be that the press cars and other cars that started out as PCNA cars for a while would account for the added numbers?

I know where two Yellow ones are I was told that there are 88 Speed Yellow. Seems like reasonable numbers.

Speed Yellow. I have 91 accounted for and my estimate is there are another 60 for the 2004 MY GT3 North America Spec.

I estimate 151 for the 2004 model year, again NA Spec covers four countries.

Don't run out of popcorn, I'm still counting cars by their VIN

Enthusiast, sounds like you have done a lot of work counting VINs and colors. Would making this information available on-line to current/past/future owners make the data more accurate by making it self-correcting with the help of owners? Just my two cents...

As you probably assumed I have a whole lot more data on these cars than just colors. I'm not sure what I will do with it in the future but over the years I have used it to assist buyers investigating GT3 candidates and I share the colors because people are interested in that (not too hard for me to update & post). When I post the color distribution I get positive comments but few owners send me any data to verify (private messages or posts).

When the 997 GT3 RS came out Max Power had the passion for that model and decided to create a Registry. To my knowledge he does most of the work. At the start I gave him some 2007 RS data and some first owners did as well, but I expect that support dwindled down to a low level for the 2007-2008 models. Not sure what help he is getting for the 2010-2011 RS fleet.
