Default 996-3 as a daily driver?

Who's doing it... no snow, of course. Care to share experiences?

Thanks.

Just bought mine, already installed straight pipes and muffler bypass pipes-hehe!

It shares time with my 355 as my daily, but during the hot Mississippi summers, the ac in the 355 can't really keep up.

So unless it's going to be a monsoon that day, it'll be the loud *** gt3 in the summer. It's going to be a good summer!

My 996/GT3 is my daily driver. I know another guy who does the same. This is a noisy car. No insulation and a stiffer ride. If you LOVE your GT3 driving it every day is a joy. Since I changed the suspension to 650/850 springs the ride is ahem... Stiff, but that didn't stop me from driving to New York to Montreal and back. 5 hours each way and I kept forgetting to turn the music on.. Just to be clear.. It isn't exactly girlfriend friendly..

In it's stock form, a 6 GT3 is easily a daily driver.

I don't mind the noise... I love it. I'm just a little worried about safety/reliability in wet weather. I will have to make other plans from late Dec.-early March in my part of the East, unless we have no snow or ice... slim chance.

I've been daily driving the GT3 since late March (no winter driving) in Chicago. I have the one piece seats and tecquipment roll bar. I think it's just fine. There are days I wish the audio were better and I had a bluetooth setup (besides the Jawbone earpiece), but mostly I just love the soundtrack of the car. My wife does not enjoy it because she sits lower than she'd like and the seat backs block here peripheral vision.

As for wet driving, it's about selecting a tire that can channel some water and staying aware. It's not for latte-sipping, cell-phone-holding, drive-with-your-knees people. But I'll assume since you're here, you're not one of those!

We do have an Audi that I drive when I need to move things/people, but mostly I just love the fire up the P-car! It's a car, drive it!!!

Gotta go put the track rubber on, Road America is coming up!

You can daily drive it. No reliability concerns.
Ride is rougher than average. Louder than average.
If you have the opportunity of having two cars, the GT3 is a better toy than a daily driver.

Exactly. If it's your only car - no problem. I just wouldn't buy one for the purpose of "daily driver."

+1 to that. car isn't happy as a DD (at least not as happy as my old 997), but it is doable. I have a VW GTi that does most of the daily chores but I'll drive the GT3 if I need an extra adrenaline boost

Not a freaking chance! I ripped off like 3 spoilers and list a filling in the first week! So I bought a Benz as a daily and modded thr **** out of the GT3 for the track

45,000 daily driving miles logged so far, zero issues here in Florida.

I had two small warranty claims so far, other than that nothing. I am on my second front spoiler after 3 years of driving.

It is the only car I own and I am fine with it rain or shine.

Once in a while I get the urge for a second car (911 cab), but the urge goes away when I start driving.

Seriously, no one can tell you what is right for you. What works perfectly fine for me is an impossible situation for others.

Yup, I've driven mine most days for the last 3 years. Car has almost 58,000 miles and never left me stranded on the street. You really have to watch potholes and little tiny cracks as they feel like speedbumps but it's all part of the charm. One good clear on ramp or two makes it all worthwhile. Even the Euro GT3 seats are VERY comfortable for the street.

It is a great car on the track or the street. But the term daily driver implies that you will jump into it to go Grocery Shopping. With all the road construction going on I would cringe driving it on fresh asphalt or oil prep. Over the river and through the woods is not GT3 territory. Most Porsche owners put 5000 miles or so on their cars per year. If by daily driver you mean morer than 5,000 miles, like maybee 8 - 12 ,000 miles then go ahead and enjoy your car. If you mean 22,000 miles and it is your only car then NO, it has room for two people and two smiles and a small picnic basket.

It has a lot more room than that. If you have the folding seats you can stuff a lot of things back there due to the lack of back seats. Heck, my girl and I used to go for music lessons together. I threw a full sized acoustic guitar and cello in the back (in their cases) and there was still room for other things.

It has more space than a standard 911.

I've had my '04 since it was new. It is very reliable -- it's a Porsche after all. I LOVE IT.

I have snow tires for it and it's fine in the winter.

The front splitter (spoiler) is not compatible with street use IMO -- it just gets ripped off by curbs etc. After I put it back on a few times I gave up and have lived without it for 5 years.

My car is both my daily driver and track car -- I've replaced suspension, seats etc; installed rollbar .....

It is a GREAT car; note: my wife won't ride in it. (In her defense the ride, which was sub-optimal when stock, is now awful on regular roads due to my suspension "improvements", and it is a pretty noisy car to start with.)

BOTTOM LINE: One person's 'daily driver' is another person's "I wouldn't be caught dead in it."
