Probably not Allan- one time is enuf on 3 min man but I'll let mooty drive my car even Dave. They are very experienced. I've learned alot from them. Understand now with the new Moton- I do that too. Number54- basic easy test for LSD- lift one wheel with ebrake off and try to turn wheel if no resistence pretty fried. Don't know bout 2 trackday fried but mine fried after 11k miles- now has 19k miles. Mike

Man, there are some pretty harsh words between OS Giken and GT about whose diff is "better". At this point, I'd probably go with GT because I already run a GT-modified 944 diff that simply hasn't given me any problems. What I hear about the Giken makes it sound superior, but frankly, I'm not sure I want to be the guinea pig. A rear diff fragmenting on my Audi wouldn't be fun, but it sounds much more catastrophic on a 911.

More and more I'm hearing that I should just do the rear diff when it goes, and not bother with a preventative upgrade.

So now I'm thinking I only need to replace the rear toe links before hitting the track. Does that sound okay? Safety first.

My next question is brakes. What do I need to do? I'm hoping the answer is just race pads and fluid. What kind of rotor temps are seen on hard-driven gt3s with r-comps? I've been using Motul RBF600 for many years now, is that a good choice for this car?

Thanks.

Mike, does trackmasters/ncrc/HoD, etc allow ride-alongs? When I come to TH can you take me for a boot around the track? It sounds like Dave would scare me.

54: OS Giken and GT have kissed and made up. I figured I'd point out an alternative for you though. You never know. Wait until it weakens enough to annoy you then deal with it.

Toe links: many folks run the stock ones. If you car isn't keeping the rear toe settings then upgrade. Or if you just want to do it - then upgrade. These help to prevent the majority of the unwanted toe changes at the rear under hard cornering forces. If you'll be driving like 3 minute man at TH then I wouldn't worry about it.

Brakes: track pads and fluid. I use RBF600 and it works great for me. For pads I use Pagid RS19/29. Most folks run Pagid or PFC. Oh yeah - I also have the cup car brake ducts. These are slightly larger and different shaped from the stock ones and move more air to the front rotors. Your car may have those. Check the part number. If not, TRG is a good source and they will run $250-$270 for the pair I think. Somewhere around there.

Rotor temps? No clue. Don't care. It is what it is and with the cup ducts, track pads and RBF600 my brakes have performed flawlessly.

Cheers,

Didn't know my LSD fried til I went on track. If it passes the lift rear wheel test and don't feel it at the track ie rear end instability/wiggle under hard braking and pig slow(powering out) around turns- I would wait til it happens- just brake earlier and let the miata's pass u by after the turn : ). Seriously I would wait on LSD rebuilt if above criteria hasn't happened. Car still pretty fast with no LSD just got to be careful(almost rear ended Russ's yellow gt3 before t10 because he had to brake earlier due to fried LSD which I found out later after the session). Most if not all Gt3's who track have had the rear toe links already installed but if not good insurance to prevent changes in toe due to crappy stock eccentric bolt toe link. I use Castrol Srf- love this stuff- haven't bled my brakes for 12 trackdays- still running well but know need to change for the summer. I use cup rotors but there are better ones(slotted seems to be the best for durability whereas cross drilled- alittle disconcerting when it starts cracking after 2 trackdays). I use pagid rs19's all around. There are the rs29's too and some use the rs blacks(rs14?) for the rear for more rear brake bias. Hope u get one before the summer : ). Mike

54, alignment is key. If you run r-comps you need to turn front struts and have at least -1.5 camber. Also, for some 6-3's, rear toe arm replacement is a must, as you already know.

Thill gets wicked hot. Motul is good, but SRF is better and often doesn't need bleeding. I used SRF because it was cheap insurance. RS 19/29 is a good call for pads.

Keep a close eye on your tire pressure. Ideal amount varies by brand, but if it gets too high, car will get away from you.

Forget about LSD until it goes. Cheap and easy upgrade is to get Cup clutch packs when the time comes. I always knew mine was working just by backing out of the garage and turning onto the street.

I was one of the slower 6-3 guys at Thill. Best for me was 2:03.xx with cyclone on MPSC's (before they repaved).

Have fun & be safe!

Allan- all the above orgs u mentioned allows ride alongs and no problem taking u for a ride- I usually do 2:58's with passengers : ). As for HOD I wouldn't recommend going into ne other grp other then race grp because pointbys are mandatory- have u tried passing 3 conga line car set and each one has to point u by- darn hilarious. Tmr/
ncrc are just courtesy pointbys for all grps other then novice. Mooty and Dave are a great pair of guys- I wouldn't hesitate at all riding with them- u learn alot-
I certainly did : ). Mike

Allan- there's a very good steak house just north of thill located in the Rolling Hills Casino-we can play blackjack and hit on old women : ). The Mexican restaurant casa
ramos is really good too which is across by the hotel where I stay if it's a 2-3 dayer. Was called Amerihost. Mike

lmao! Are they little old ladies from Pasadena?

2:58? I'll bring my pillow and blankie.

I love a good steak. Morton's in Vancouver went belly up last fall. Good thing a fantastic french restaurant by my house has an unreal chateaubriand. Even beat Morton's for tenderness. Had kobe filet in Vegas a while back. Crap...now I'm drooling on my keyboard!

Thx for the heads up about HoD. Never been to any of those outfits so the guidance is appreciated. I just made an agreement with a great driving coach so I'm going to work on the nut behind the wheel this year. That nut needs lots of work.

If I ride with Mooty then he'll make me buy stuff from his inventory of parts. ....that might be ok though. And you guys aren't too far away from Sharky.

I have a feeling this will be a very expensive trip.

Looking forward to the get together and vice versa- saw a tour on ORP- very nice tite track like my women- lol. Mike

No one's going to confuse the casino steak house with Morton's...maybe Denny's, though. LOL

Wait until you see their "wine cellar"...a small stand in the corner of the room with Mondavi Coastal.

The food there is ok. It's considered "high brow" for that area.

lol! Thanks for the heads up. I'll adjust the expectations of my taste buds. Mike, let me know when you're going to Vegas next.

Back to TH for a sec...how are the various track groups set up for newbies to the track (but not to track driving)?

Like holger mentioned it ain't mortons's - u need a hacksaw to cut the meat- thank god they have them in hand : ). I'm not clear on your question Allan- are u talking about track newbies and how they are grouped or something else? Mike
