Looking for a GT2, insight requested.

I've been a member for a short while, more of a lurker really. I have a 996 GT3, which I wanted to sell because I thought it was too much of a car for me, but I didn't sell it. I love it, and am very very happy with it. I want to keep it forever!
Anyway, I'm looking for a GT2 to add to the stable since I sold my big turbo Audi A4, and I need that turbocharged gap filled. There seems to be quite a few GT2's for sale recently. I have never driven one, and do not have an opportunity to test one out before I buy it, since the car will likely have to be shipped to me in Portland, Oregon, and there are none locally for sale either there, or in Vancouver, BC where I live.
Can anyone offer any advice, words of caution, things I should look for, or are you planning on selling your GT2?, what about high mileage GT2's? Should I be worried if there are a lot of miles? I know the GT3 will last forever, especially since mine was never tracked, only babied, highway, and street driven. How about the GT2? Will it last forever? Maybe the turbos will need replacing at some point. Perhaps oil consumption and changes will need to be performed more frequently? Is the GT2 a decent road trip car for long highway drives?
I plan on driving the GT2 about 5,000 km's (3106 miles) per year, forever, same as I currently do with the GT3.
I know the specs of GT2, and have read reviews, watched videos and all that, but what about personal experience? How was maintenance? What about reliability? I'd really like a reliable car.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

Hi,
I ran my totally standard car for nearly two years and 20,000 miles.
The engine is pretty much bullet proof in standard form.
All three radiators seem to be a frequently replaced item over here in the UK.
As a road car I didn't find my car as involving to drive as my Mk1 996 GT3, but it was more refined as a daily driver (and quicker in a straight line when overtaking opportunities presented themselves) and in a GT2 they present themselves more often than you'd think . . .
Mine was Midnight blue, so was considerably more discreet than my GT3 (Zanzibar)

Not sure if you are considering a 996 or 997 GT2. These are very different animals with the 997 being much more civilized, not as dangerous and easier to drive fast. I went from a 996 GT3 to a 997 GT2 and am very happy with the move. I use the car almost exclusively for track days plus the drive to and from the track. If you are not going to track the car I would think that a Turbo would be much more comfortable on the road. Not to track a GT2 is to not take advantage of its best and highest use.

I considered a GT2 before my GT3 purchase. However after looking at several (and finding all of them had previous crash damage) I stayed with a GT3. Perhaps a 2010 GT3 would be a better stablemate to complement your 6 GT3.
If not then watch for hidden damage on GT2's. Here's what to look out for:

TO the OP, I went from a 996 GT2 to a Gen 1 997 GT3 it is a far superior car, better chassis, more useable NA engine. A 996 GT2 once driven, can be VERY addictive though . . . . .

Zanzibar is my favorite color. I saw a GT2 @ the Hershey Parade and feel in love with the color.
As for GT2's mine could be had for the right price BUT IT AIN'T STOCK by any means. It also had some right front work after a VIR incident. No suspension damage but lots of fresh paint, radiators, right front fender. All receipts.

If you do find a 996 gt2 make sure you have the alignment (particularly the rear) checked by a good shop and maybe put on some monoball toe links before you push it real hard. The rear end can come around very quickly if you are not careful. It is not called the widow maker for nothing
