996 GT2 vs Turbo S difference???
#2
I would think the biggest difference would be the GT2's lack of AWD and electronic stability control. It requires far more driver skill to be safe, but is more rewarding for the skillful driver.

The GT2 also, obviously, has better "aero," or less lift and I believe the suspension geometrys are slightly different between the two. It's also lighter.

Just differences in general. Knew about awd vs rear drive, but other things like suspension, hp, etc.
Friend is looking at two cars, one GT2, other one TT, asked me for advice.

What are you looking for in terms of suspension difference? Specific geometry differences? Spring/damper differences? Sway bar difference? ...? Like I said before in terms of out right geometry there are slight difference to account for the RWD v. AWD, but you'd have to contact a race shop to get the specifics. Both are fully adjustable. The GT2 sits much lower and requires a proper alignment and after market rear toe links before it should be driven aggressively.
What is he looking to do with the car? Once we know this, we can help advise him on what car would be best for him.

GT2 is a beast which will require skill to drive with purpose and keep the car pointing in the desired direction. It IS a great car. The turbo S is a great street freeway cruiser. Is it his first Porsche?

Thanks for all the info so far!
Friend is selling his RUF converted 88 Turbo and wants to move to a newer ride. Not much track stuff but he lives in Arkansas and has HWY 7 in his backyard! HWY 7 is a roller coaster with very little traffic.

What is the difference?? Everything lol...
Suspension/components and geometry, no sound deadening, no back seats, no AWD or TC, transmission oil cooler, brass synchros, different motor or tranny mounts I believe, better aerodynamics, more power, no sunroof , better brake cooling/overall engine cooling with the decklid intake ducts, ONE HELL OF A THRILL RIDE.. I'm forgetting a bunch more, but you get the idea

If he's coming from a modified 930 turbo, I think he would like the GT2 more. Tell him to test drive the two of them and find out which one he likes more. The 930 is similar to the gt2, RWD, turbo charged, and a handful.

Aren't Turbo S's in very short supply?
Have you driven both? I bet that answers your question pretty quickly - then ask again, because you'll fall in love with one over the other (likely) and then start justifying its shortcomings. That's where the forum can keep you on track.

I have a fully sorted RUF R-GT2 590 car, extremely fast, on Motons and so on.. I wasn't planning on selling, but if the offer is right it might really have me rethink my plans on keeping it and getting into a GT3 RS.. Let me know

As iLLM3 said above "everything is different".
FWIW, the MSRPs in 2004, the only year where both the S and GT2 were available, are (actually, 5 GT2 cars were imported to the US in 05):
- TTS Coupe $131,400 USD
- GT2 $191,700 USD - for me one of the best looking P-cars ever
