I would recommend starting there and see if that helps. If not, you might need to have the gearbox looked at internally. I realize that you do not have many miles on it, but depending on how it has been driven it may just get worse and as a result more expensive if there is something inside that needs attention.

Opinions vary with regard to the fluid, but I would only recommend using the OEM recommended Shell product, as I am not really a fan of the Mobil 1. The part number for this fluid is 999 917 546 00.

This is pretty expensive through Porsche, but I can help with this too.

I changed the gearbox oil 3x a year. End of spring, summer, and fall.

What is a good interval to change transmission oil if car sees track time?

Dave, sorry, I should have been more specific. I was quoting my change interval for a car that is a track *****. For the basic street car, I would do once a year.

Thanks Dell. This will be what I do: once/yr. I only do around 3000+ miles/yr but I guess with track time it's wise to do the annual fluid change.

Very welcome. I am EXTREMELY **** about the upkeep on my cars so I probably do fluids, etc, more often than most but it is CHEAP insurance to keep these cars purring for a long time.

I'm not sure he said it was no good but that he isn't a fan of it. Maybe he was referring to the OTC Mobil1 LS75W-90 you get at places like Auto Zone. That is not proper for these gearboxes.

With that said, I use Mobil 1 Delvac in the GT3 gearbox and my RS America and Spec Boxster with fantastic results. For my street car (996 CAB) I run the OEM Shell Transaxle.

Thanks for clarifying Dell, I didn't realize there are 2 types of Mobil 1.

On a cup car the interval is 10 hours which what I do. Had no issues with my 02 GT2 or subsequent 3s. Also found that Amsoil heavy duty gear oil worked better than the OEM stuff. Helps avoid the balky 2 _ 3 upshift.
