Cup LSD?
My LSD is gone on my 996 GT2 and I am thinking of replacing the friction-plates with Cup versions.
Can I use both the 4 and 8 plate versions (cup-04 and cup-05) without any modifications? Anything else than the plates that I should replace during the rebuild? What are the partnumbers for the needed pars?

I don't know what availability is like in Sweden, but my LSD was shot and my shop tried for months to get a Cup LSD from Porsche, and from certain Porsche racing teams who can get the Cup LSD, no luck, couldn't get one. If you find you cannot get a Cup LSD either, the Guards unit is good.

The Guards lsd seems to be very nice, but also expensive.
I don't think that availability would be a problem, at least if I know exactly what parts I want. The problem is that I don't know if the Cup-05 internals with 8 plates would fit or if I should go for the Cup-04 with 4 plates.

guard is way better and in the US cost less than the Porsche part. If you mostly track get the 50/80. It WILL also outlast the Porsche part and that safes even more.

You might look @ the OSgiken Super Lock LSD. I have 1 in my 996GT2 and it works awesome. Retail cost US is $1790.00. I am not a dealer just a happy user. http://www.osgiken.net/products/superlock.html

I can't compare the OSgiken to the Guards as I have never run the Guards LSD.
In my Honda S2000 when I went from the Kazz LSD, I used to come in from a race and the diff would be literally smoking hot, to the OSgiken and Syngear II the diff temps dropped and I no longer had the heat problem.
I hope this answers your questions.

I installed it in the GT2, 930mans ex car, right after I got it with app 7000 miles. Installation was not an issue, Foreign Affairs in Pompano, FL did the install. The car now has 15,000 miles with no issues. Braking from high speed is much better than with the stock LSD and the lockup on acceleration exiting corners is very progressive. No Chatter. Also works well in the rain. On a wet track @ Little Talledega during the 1009 One Lap we were fastest car in the morning beating Gt-r's and other awd cars. In the afternoon on a heavy standing water we were 2nd fastest. I do run Syngear II 80/140 in the transmission/diff instead of Mobile 1. OSgiken recommended using Syngear II and I was concerned with the heavier weight over Mobile 1 but shifting has been fine. When the transmission is cold it is a little stiff but after a couple of shifts it frees right and shifts fine the rest of the day.

The OS Giken is the only way to go. Awesome control and even better durability. I am a dealer, so let me know if you need one.

I am a Rennlist Sponsor, however my tag has not been changed as of yet. I am working with Internet Brands to resolve this.
Thank you though.

The 8 disc LSD is for the 997 cups which started production in 05'.
The 03'-05' 996 cups use the 4 disc LSD.
Dan is correct that they stopped production of the 996 Cup in 04'. However, they badged 100+ of them as 05' models. You can tell by the digit after the letter S in the VIN. 4 means 04', 5=05', etc....
