Intake Plenum
I have had vacuum leaks at the intake plenum on my car twice now. If you look at the intake plenum, there are aluminum housings and rubber rings ("boots") that fasten the aluminum housings to each other. Each time, its a rubber "boot" that joins the plenum that has gotten crimped and split causing a crack and thus a leak. There are two types of rubber boots on the intake plenum, one is a simple rubber ring, the other is a rubber ring with an air injection housing. Its the air injection housing boot that has split each time. Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?

My rubber boot on rt side blew off due to car spinning backwards wo clutch in at LS. What a bitch to push it back in. Damn gotta stop mentioning spinning. Maybe Samco has better boots to hook onto. Mike

I have only seen this once. It was on a 996 GT3 that went backwards on track, clutch not in. I think it blew the intake manifold loose of all the connecting boots.

Saw the exact same thing at an event at VIR. Couldn't figure out what the problem was until closer inspection. Seems like a connection should be stronger there unless it's a motor saver system. Weird.

Early on, my boot on the right side looked like it was eaten by a mouse. (It wasn't) The dealer needed to replace it and PCNA called for the motor to be dropped to get at it. Figured a quicker workaround and never happened again.
