Gang,

OK -- I'm the one who started this thread.

Ignoring the likelihood of a crash, IF YOU GET INTO A CRASH, how much worse are you in a Roll-bar protected car than in a full-cage car? That is really what I was asking.

And while I didn't address street versus track dangers, I'm focusing on the track.
Further, I suspect that the issue is rollover protection: Does the A-frame (windshield) frame hold up or does it crumble in a roll-over situation, ie the rollbar case?

a roll bar will most definitly help. and a roll cage even more so.

i would be happy with just a roll bar, however im required a full cage for my form of competition.
(and im probably better off)

i compromised. Porsche sells a full club sport cage that bolts in. (you can unbolt the front section when not in use) 996 and 997 have their variants. totally clean, factory and functional.
