...also, I suppose subconsciously I don't want to figure out the costs that precisely. $500/day sounds much nicer.
The funny thing is that does NOT include any maintenance or upgrades, etc

Allow me to elaborate. There was no 993 equivalent for the 964RSA. 993TT was the last of the oil-cooled 911 - there is a greater truly enthusiast following than water-cooled. 965 3.6 - last of the kick-in-the-*** single RWD turbos. Also very limited production. All these cars had something to offer that subsequent models didn't.

The 996 GT3? Amazing car, no doubt. The 997 is better. It's no fatter, no less nimble, its no less car by any means.

I may be wrong, but I think that the 6GT3 will continue to depreciate despite the low production numbers.
If you want less biased opinions on whether a 6 or 7 is a better GT3 this isn't the best forum. Maybe take a walk over to the 7 forum.

Extra maintenance, sure. But I don't think that upgrades should count in that average track day figure. I have those neatly compartmentalized in another ledger column.

Maybe this entire habit should go under "medical".

Maybe the 6GT3 will continue to depreciate? Maybe not? I personally don't care. If they keep getting cheaper then I'll buy spares and that will probably keep the price up.

Personally, I don't think the 997 GT3 is "better". I see it as easier to drive faster than a 6GT3 and I fully expect to see those passing me at the track, but it comes with some junk I don't want and to me that makes it "worse" than a 6GT3. If the 997 MkII GT3 (and all later versions) comes without a sunroof, then I'm seeing the original 997 GT3 as the one version that could (eventually) depreciate below the 6GT3.

To me, the 6GT3 is quite "pure". The 7+GT3 has extra crap and isn't so "pure". They're all great cars and I wouldn't boot out newer versions from my garage, but I think the 6GT3 is the one version that's just a little special.

Cheers,

See my classified. 2004 GT3 with a Cup wing & kick butt Alpine sound system. Upper $50s but will negotiate a little.

I say "I'm adding to the Value of your Estate" when I do the maintainence, repairs, enhancements
(for safety) & tires. I still expect the 996 GT3 to hold it's value (hope)

the cheapest 2004 GT3 i have seen sell to date was a 2004, silver, with 32 420 miles in Phoenix.
sale date May 2009, $43 500.00 via Adesa auctions. The car looked normal but could have had a story......

the cheapest car is not neccessaryly the best car to buy. Look for well maintained examples and cars with lots of extras you may want to have anyhow. And sometimes color helps narrow your search. ( i reccomend white).

The 996 GT3 is the "raw" GT3. It has its place in drivers hearts.

pretty soon 996 CUP guys are going to be grabbing these cars for the tubs, so dont count on the prices dropping ultra low......

Yeah, I can see that for you fast guys on fast tracks with yummy (expensive) tires.

My home track is a joke. Sloooooow. It's so slow I got 14 track days from my cup rotors! Same with pads. I'm running cheap Nitto tires too.

So it can be cheap(ish).....if you live by a crappy track like I do. Not that that's a good thing.

and even to go as far to say those with damaged 996 CUPs could easily pick up a street GT3 for the tub n parts.

thus, the future demand will be high which as result will keep the prices from dropping any further....

perhaps....

on the track day cost thinggie.. for my 964 i figured $500-750 all inclusive of fee's, tires, maintiance (every 2 track days do the run through) etc.
Racing it is 3x that cost for the weekend.

this takes into account you have extra wheels, and all the other stuff nessecary and is purely running costs with about 3/4 of it done by a shop.

i would figure a GT3 at about the same +/- 250

Dude, you might want to reconsider owning a GT3 if the entry cost is worrying you. Replacement parts aren't any cheaper no matter the year/mileage right. So if a delta of $10k means you're in or out, then maybe you'll be better off with a cheaper car? Nothing on these cars is cheap.

Yup.
