Default Rotor Anti-Vibration Rings / Calipers

Well,
When I recently changed my rotors I noticed a few interesting things with my calipers. First, looks like one of the anti-vibration rings was literally fried. See the attached picture.

In the past I have not been paying that much attention when changing the pads or rotors and this time I took a deeper look and noticed the top ring looks flattened like a pancake. I know some individuals don't even use the rings so they are not critical. That said I would like to have all of them in operation.

So were are my related questions:
1) Do I just pry off the plastic ring off the caliper with a screwdriver and make sure I stay away from the rubber seal. I don't want to damage the piston. Since I drive the car on the road I would like to keep the anti-vibration rings.
2) What is the part number for the yellow anti-vibration rings, and can I purchase these items without having to purchase a whole brake kit. On the other rotor I noticed one of the rings was broken and should be replaced.
3) What is a good cleaner for the calipers that will not harm the paint and components.

Note, the brakes are working fine.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Remove the caliper and push them out with your fingers. Taking the caliper off will make removing and adding them back easier.

You can buy them individually. They are also known as spiders. Expect to pay around $5 a spider. I have a big box of them laying around.

rodneyr,

Also, take a look at the piston dust boots. They are usually cracked, looks like you have one that is already. I would bet they all are.

Easy to replace, can be purchased individually and highly recommended.

Rob & Dave, thanks for the comments. Hopefully I can just pull out the ring/spider that is deformed. I did not pull too hard, but the initial pull with my fingers it did not come out. I will look to replace both the boot's and the damaged spider's. Also, I will look to clean the calipers with Simple Green.

Is it common for the spiders to get demormed?

It's a stuck anti vibration damper, easy to remove with a (gentle) pry...

Check suncoast etc for parts http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...996gt3exterior

Or you could leave it and re-use. The adhesive backing goes after a few heat cycles anyway... Probably best to take it out and check anyway though.

You need for front depending on the calipers you have:
92835191700 44mm seals
99635191501 38mm seals
99635191500 32mm seals
99635291700 28mm seals

And for rear
99635291701 30mm seals
99635291700 28mm seals

Porsche dealer has them or try shops listed here.

I stopped using them after my first brake pad change years ago. They are not needed and a waste of money to put back in.....especially if you change pads between street and track. If you only use street pads and your changes are few and far between, run them if it makes you feel good. Otherwise, spend the $$$ on the car for other things. A full set of anti-squeal spider/shims will set you back $150.

Just for clarification, are we talking about the yellow ceramic disk that would be between the piston and the back of the brake pad? If so, they aren't needed? Excellent. I keep cracking them or they keep popping out when I change pads.

Thank you. Yes I have come to the same conclusion. I do change pads between street and track. From what I can tell it would be a huge pain to deal with these spider things
Speaking of pads for the 6gt3 are the yellow pagid 29 the best
Thanks

Not even close. But then again, pads are like oil, tires, exhaust, etc, etc, etc.
