Alternator failure

Success! Took 20 minute test drive with a/c on, fans on full blast and with headlights on. Needle did not move from 14 volts. Thanks Holger, for the inspiration to complete my very first DIY.

Good to see that you're back on the road and running properly!
I also used anti-seize, but it didn't help much (if any) in my case because the fit was so snug.

Just finished my alternator replacement. I was the original poster. Obviously this is an extra car so it took me a long time to get around to the fix. My experience was exactly the same as the followup posters have commented. If you wash your car and let it sit without fully heating up the engine to burn off the water that accumulated in and around this alternator you will eventually have this repair. Fortunatly for me and a few others we were able to fix it ourselves. For those of you not mechanically inclined either figure out a way to keep water from entering the engine compartment when you wash the car or plan to drive it for 30 mins or more after everywash...or save up 2k for the dealership to fix this problem for you!!
