Default MKI to MKII Headlight Retrofit

I plan on doing a MKII head light retrofit to my MKI. I was wondering if the fenders honestly have to be changed? I know the bumper must be changed.

I was also wondering if the MKII non xenon's headlight housings can be fitted with aftermarket xenon's? I know that on the lexus the design and "cut-off" is completely different from xenon to halogen. I know when you do up date it the xenon will not light up the road light a OEM xenon house will and is actually less light surface area than the old halogens. Is this the same thing with MKII non xenon housings?

Thanks,
Brandon

Mate, if it's a Mk1 GT3, why would you bastardise a very rare car? I wouldn't change it. All imho of course.

Yes, but I can't remember when was the last time I saw a Mk1. Keep it original.

Hmm I am still wondering if 2004 headlights will work on a 200o with out having to change the fenders? I know the bumpers are complete different but the fenders look like they would be the same... Can anyone clear this up for me please?

Same as the above... The Mk1 GT3 is a special car. I would keep it original.

If you just gotta do it... my understanding is that you have to change the front fenders, bumper, and some of the internal trim work. Try the 996 forum, you'd probably get a better responce over there.

You're right, those aren't really pretty headlights, they don't look great on anything except.... a first gen GT3! If everything else looks first gen, please keep them. I don't know what it is, but an aerokit and wheels just make that car look right in a way no other beginning 996 does.

I love my mk1!!

I understand they are rather rare in the US. They are a special car and I would think an original car is right, where a fudged mk1 is a horror to consider!!

Here's mine and some lovely press shots of one.

I agree about the look of mk1 lights, but surely the sensible thing is to chop the car in for a mk2 rather than ending up with a bastardised mess?
