Some "friend", maybe there is a friends and family discount as well.

Should be less than $40.

These guys have all sorts of mesh already powder coated. Choose the style you like or order the sample pack!

BTW, $35 to get them powdercoated. How long does the job take to remove bumper, install grills, and replace bumper?

Time taken - my estimate looking at the instruction sheet above

half an hour to get the bumper off
half an hour to fix the grills in with small cable ties (drill small holes in the black plastic surround) plus cutting the grill sheet to size if not ready made
10 minutes cleaning out old debris
20 minutes to get the bumper back on.

I'll post the real times when I've done it!

After 3 hours I have the bumper off and the first side grill attached - includes cleaning the recesses, cutting the first grill to shape - drilling small holes for cable ties - oh and removing old lip spoiler so I can fit a new Cup lip spoiler.

Now for a beeer!

Note:

You have to fiddle/partially undo the screws to the wheel arch liner to remove one of the screw holding the bumper situated by the indicator (turn) light.

After 5 hours and 10 minutes I have the second grill and new cup spoiler fitted and the whole thing cleaned and waxed.

Centre grill to go!

Interesting that the 3 vents in the top of the RS bumper appear to do nothing. The intake to the radiator does not vent out through the 3 vents on top of the bumper!

About 2 hours to put the bumper back on - includes fiddling about trying to get the headlight and trunk gaps correct and even.

Its worth doing a test fit of the headlights and shutting the trunk lid to make sure the gaps are ok before proceeding to fit all the screws at the wheel arch points.

You say that the installation is easy. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, which would not be surprising, but I'm having a terrible time reinstalling the bumper.

Do the grills go in the channel around the openings? Seem to fit quite nicely. But I can't get the center duct to fit over the installed grill, so the bumper will not reseat.

Help!

A few random thoughts about grills.

The primary purpose is to stop damage to the water/oil/aircon radiators. This is a major plus point which has not escaped the notice of owners/race teams and finally the Porsche design teams. It is noticeable that the 2009 RSR and the new GT3 mk2 have grills. (what a surprise!)

Fitting grills means that dependant upon the strength and mesh size, you will have to remove the bumper eventually to remove small debris. Once you have done it the mystique and fear have gone and you can do it again - its a pain but a worthwhile process. Its a lot better than learning how to (and paying) replace a radiator.

Even grills that cost 24 dollars that you fit yourself look great. There is no need to pay "bend over" Porsche prices for grills. In fact if you are about to its nearly cost effective for me to fly to wherever you are in the world and fit them rather than to pay the extortionate prices plus fitting that the specialists charge - in fact if you want to pay several hundred dollars send me a pm and I'll come and visit - I like meeting new people with Porsches..

Plastic grills are easier to fit - do the job and dont draw blood like alloy or steel ones.

Have fun!

Or you can buy new cheaply from someone who didn't want to bother. As Steve notes, I got it done with the help of my friends.
