showing off- fast and furious murders two people.
One would think that a person with the ability own own a GT2 would make better decisions.

Yep, as soon as I saw the photo in the Sun-Sentinel I knew the cops would have no trouble tracking the owner down - I mean, how many white 997 GT2s can there be? I'm sure that the story will be that "the car was stolen", but not so reported until AFTER the accident. A damn shame on all levels.

I'm showing my 12 year old daughter this story with pictures. This is a parents worst nightmare when they're 16 years old and get their license. Although she's been racing karts since she was 5, I've drilled into her head that she will be challenged to street races when she's in high school only because she's raced and she's a girl and the hardest thing to do is to back down and let it go. Stories like this help to put reality behind my fears. Sad shame for everyone.

This should be a lesson to all street racers (I admit, I've done it also).
Putting on my defense attorney hat, here's the scoop. The owner is not necessarily the driver. The police have to do one of two things. Question the registered owner and get a confession (best option). Find witnesses who can ID the driver (second best option). They usually start with passengers. In the past the people who I represented usually try to call the cops and tell them "My car got stolen", If this call comes after the accident, it's useless and more of a backhanded confession in front of a jury.
Another tool in the cops arsenal is DNA. They can now DNA the steering wheel and other parts of the interior and get epithelial cells off of it EVERY TIME. If there is a mixture of cells from two people, with one being the owner, that's not so good for the police. If the only cells are the owner's, case closed (although you could argue the thief, (with a GT2 probably a professional), wore gloves. Also, the theft angle should also have evidence that the car was started without a key or with a stolen key.
Further, The cops will probably tower track the owners cell phone. If he made any calls in the vicinity of the deaths, at around that time, more nails in the coffin.
My advice: Hire a very good lawyer with good DA / State attorney relationships and keep the prison sentence under 5 years. But in all cases KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

This lack of accountability and sense of responsibility for one's actions is what has gotten us (this country and humans as a whole) in the crisis we're in now. Again, IMHO.

Here's an update from the same newspaper which ran the original. Looks like the poor pedestrians never stood a chance, the Porsche driver jumped the curb.
