Default Brake shims

I never ran any brake shims on my 930 brakes- What is Standard procedure for track pads for GT3 ? Just put them in and go- skip shims.?

No shims.
No spiders (round black plastic caps that slip into the pistons).
No spring.

Shims? like the backing plates? Whatever, take all that crap off, and install Stainless steel lines.

lines already done- I prefer Motul 600, the extra Pads that came with car are R14- black Pagid. will install soon - when I use up stock rotors I will go to Deman's rotors. Temperature 23 degrees outside - so I not going anywhere yet.

Just heard back from Whitney at Speed bleeders- We will now have an application for 996 GT 3- I'll verify also for 997. Speed bleeders enable a 1 person brake bleed with the best final pedal of any system I've ever used over the years- Will post final info when confirmed

Personally I would go with a Motive power bleeder. It's a one person job as well and you retain the factory bleed valves. Do a search on the speed bleeders. IIRC, there was not got input from the guys here regarding them.

+1 motive PB! I also keep a squeeze bottle with me in case I need to bleed "old school"

I looked into those speed bleeders, quite pricey for just replacing bleed valves.

Now those tireleifs that bleed off air over whatever psi you set them at are really interesting

Here is how speed bleeders work- you put wrench on speed bleeder- attach hose to bottle- loosen bleeder 1/2 turn- get in car- press brake pedal down- release- etc- On 930 I got 9 pumps before I needed to refill reservoir. - tighten bleeder- pump for firmness- go to next bleeder- nothing better.

I had the speed bleeders on my previous car and didn't really like 'em. I switched over to the Motive bleeder and have very little complaints. It seems to be the more popular choose.

Yeah, that's why so many refer to it as a pad slap, just drop them in, put the bolt back through and go. There's a brake caliper piston spreader tool on the market too, makes retracting the pistons really really easy, but I think it sells for the same price as a set of pads.

For stock pads and noise reduction you can use the spiders (aka shims or silencer pucks) and the spring tensioner on the top of the pads.

I love the sound of floating rotors and brake pad slapping in the morning. Will be putting cup car brake ducts and speed bleeders in the afternoon. (probably next week- on order)
