Default Gear Indicator

I'd like something that indicates what gear I'm in. No longer tracking, so winding this car up to redline is much less of an occurrence, but am finding myself cruising in 4th when I could be in 5th, or 5th when I should be in 6th. I'd like to install a gear indicator. Any products out there?

Hey Joe

I was at SEMA and played with this shift ****. It has a shift indicator in it. Looky here http://www.gaslock.de/index.php?section=2,0 I've played with the display model and it is very cool. It senses the position of the shift **** to display the gear. The electronics are in the **** itself and has a power line that is in the shift boot. You just need to tap into a power supply like close by. Retail should be around $170-200. The **** feels good in my hands while shifting. I'm thinking of picking one up myself.

Sorry Joe, I don't know. My friend is considering carrying the product but has not followed up with it yet.

I contacted Carnewal, and Gert is checking on these, especially the dash mounted unit to determine how it gets its signal from a Porsche. Good to have such an expert check out the product.

eddie.. that it pretty cool. It would be fun to have it on the dash. Missed you on the 23rd. great track day. Gregg Fordahl was out and driving some cars for fine tuning. My car is going to him for the next suspension upgrade this winter.

The dash mount was pretty cool. I remember playing with it and it had a g-force meter built in with light bars to see how many g's you were pulling. I forget but there were some other features that were pretty cool.

I wanted to go out on the 23rd but I'm on diaper duty until next spring.

That is pretty cool. Gert will soon find out that gear recognition is achieved through a map in the Motronic control unit that calculates the selected gear from the cars speed (from the ABS control unit) and the engine speed. Perhaps he will be able to do something with that.

Reply from the mfgr:
But please visit www.amazon.com. There you can buy the INDY-CATOR at a retail price of $ 164.65.

So, I did, http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...aslock&x=0&y=0

The dash mounted unit is not available until Feb '09, BTW.

From the installation guide, you tell it where each gear position is, and it knows thereafter. Must have a couple of sensors inside :-)

It's the dash mounted unit about which Gert is inquiring. However, per my edit above, it's not yet available.

Hi guys,

The price for the Gaslock shifters :
Classic : 129 Euro + shipping
Black or white : 115 Euro + shipping

For those that don't want to cut up their original shifter; for the 996, we can supply the original Porsche leather boot with silver horse shoe and we also have the leather and Alcantara shifter boots for the 997.
