Weekend at Infineon

It was a three day drive to get there so I was going out regardless. I was on full tread depth PS2s for the wet and the car was pushing into most of the corners and stepping out under power everywhere. Quite the track!

Yup, it's a great track. I'll be up there Fri. Looks like we'll get lucky with some nice dry conditions tho. I think a bunch of other 'lister's will be there...GT3'r and bro, BSR,....should be fun.

Turn 2 is fairly predictable going up the hill but cresting the hill is a severely puckering event. Turn 3a is arguably worse. Turning while cresting a hill onto an off camber surface in the rain!
My first time at the track so my confidence was low and I was being VERY careful as I learned the line. Sunday the track was still wet but dried out completely by late in the morning. The turns 7 through 11 are true GT3 territory with the car in the perfect power band. Quite the brake test going into 11!

Leigh, glad you got at least one good day for your long drive!
The rain last Saturday was pretty heavy, a lot of standing water everywhere so 35mph was pretty terrifying. Front straight had a few small rivers to cross. Going up the hill to T2 there were sheets of water coming down against you, felt like a salmon going upstream. T2 very slippery of course. Muddy river around the outside half of T5 entry. Big puddle at the apex of the Carousel, so the "apex" moved out about 10 feet. After rounding T7, easy to hydroplane at only 30-40mph approaching T8. Then there was "Lake 10" as you can see from Leigh's photo - parting the Red Sea! At one point in the hot pits, by the inside wall where BMWCCA puts the instructor tents we had a 2 foot wide stream on the inside side of the wall, and a 3 foot wide stream on the other! Almost took myself out a couple times jumping off the wall to get to a student's car (reminder of how painted surfaces are slippery in the wet...) With all the water, Saturday was actually more of an exercise in puddle avoidance/car control than driving any real "line".
