As subject line says... Are the PS2 significantly softer riding and than the sport cups?

don't know what you mean by softer ride...they both run similar pressures on the street, with the PS2 being a much better tire in the wet...mpsc (996 series)on the street doesn't make sense because they are a softer compound and will wear quicker...ride qualilty is similar except in the wet....you won't get the mpsc up to temp on the street...unless you are going to spend most of your time on the track and only drive the car to and from the track...the ps'2's are a much better choice

Chuck,

I recently bought the car with MPSCs already installed. The car will largely see street duty rather than track. The roads here are appallingly bad, so I am looking to make the car more compliant.

I imagine that the sidewalls on the PS2s are softer than that of MPSCs I was just curious as to how noticeable or significant the difference was.

Without a doubt, the PS2's would be more suitable for my use.

ok, you might want to get input from some of the guys on here that have tried other brands like Pirelli or Dunlop...the PS2's are very quiet but only slightly more compliant than mpsc's...GT3 is a hard ride on any bad road...

For most yes its back breaking, but for anyone who would THINK it would be like riding on metal, they are shocked at how smooth and composed it can be..

MPSC's are a bit harsher to ride on, comes with the territory over the PS2's..

I recall the PS2 sidewalls being much softer than MPSC. It's a noticeable difference and much better for street use.

PS2s are definitely softer/quieter for street use. MPSC definitely firmer and noisier.

Agreed

PS2= Street or rain tire on track
MPSC= track when dry
Toyo888=track dry or wet but noisy on the road - MUCH cheaper than MPSC

For daily driving, I would switch immediately to PS2 or other street tire. MPSC are horrible (to the point of being dangerous) in the rain. I got caught in heavy rain driving to the track on MPSC once and really learned what hydroplaning was all about.

You might also search some threads here about alternatives to the PS2 for DD use. I switched to Kumhos for DD, they are about half the price of PS2 and the performance is fine for street driving. For the track, I've used MPSC, Hoosiers, and am going to try Toyos next week.

And don't forget the cups are slick when cold which will be probably all the time on the street.

I have been reminded of that almost every time I took out the car in the last three weeks. MPSCs and near freezing temperature are NOT good.
