Trying to get a feel for how much quicker Hoosiers are than cups, or 888s etc? Anyone done back to back comparisons with lap times?
Are hoosiers slick levels of grip? How many g's can they pull?

I'd have to pull my data files from when I ran R6's but I can tell you that they are GRIPPY. On a 2 min track I would venture to say that R6 will be 2 seconds faster than cups and 3-4 moreso than R888. IMHO they are the BEST tire you can have for grip short of running a slick. The plus for the R888 is that you can get many more HC's than you can with the MPSC or the R6.
The lateral G load you are looking for is not going to be the same across all conditions. You will need to find somebody that has a car similarly setup to yours.

Not that fussed about the g, although in a static circle would think setup wasn't a huge deal?
Just trying to get a feel for how they impact laptimes. You reckon 1 sec a minute roughly then on your home track? (which is that?)
Thanks,
Dan

My home track is VIR which is essentially a 2 min course (pros in GT3Cup turning 152-153 and street GT3's turning greater than 2min).
Best bang for the buck though is the R888/NT01 since they can get over twice the HC's than the rest.
Tire grip based on tire (best to worst)
1. Slicks
2. R6 (2-5 seconds slower than slicks depending on slick)
3. MPSC (2 seconds slower than R6)
4. R888/NT-01 (1-3 seconds slower than the MPSC)
Times (best) for the 4 tires in my 996GT3:
1. 2:03
2. 2:06
3. no time captured
4. 2:09

Favorite were Michelin but I have been running the Yokohama slicks mostly and they are the ones I set my personal best at VIR with (2:03). I have not personally run the Pirelli slicks but have sat right seat with them and loved them!
Michelin Cup slicks:
24/64 F
27/65 R
Pirelli:
245/645 F
305/645 R
Yok:
250/650 F
280/650 R

Thanks Dell. What time do you think a pro would set in your car in equivalent tyres? Couple of secs quicker or are you on the pace?
When you say HCs, are you talking about sessions on track? I can get about 3 trackdays out of a set of MPSCs due to wear, but haven't managed to get my logger working so haven't tracked the performance drop off. Toyos don't seem to last any longer and have a lot of other downsides - nice and cheap though.

As far as times in my car with a pro, without trying to come across overly arrogant (confident), I would venture to say I am getting darn near all the tires can give me and the car as well. A seasoned pro with GT3 exprience could probably get another second maybe out of my car that day?
My time of 2:03 was on used scrubs that had 5+ days on them already so with stickers I would imagine I could run a 2:00-2:01 in optimal conditions. I am here to tell you there is not much more that a street GT3 can do (driver, setup, etc) to break below 2min.
To give you a comparison, the other cars running that weekend that were faster than me were running 996 Cups with a fastest qualifying time of 1:59.6

Yeah I know what an HC is, but does each session you take the car out count as one?
Sounds like you are right on the pace - good stuff. Your response is a good datapoint!

As a point of reference, comparable compound averages in my experience is/were 15 for the Michelins and 12 for the Yokohama's. The Michelins did work well with more - camber. Yokohama are less expensive as new so it's basically a wash and all about preference for most users if you're keeping them for the entire life. Yokohama availability and size variation has been consistently better than Michelin's intermittently flakey-ness. Michelins have always been credited with delivering faster times when brand new, although I have no controled conditions testing evidence to support that.
