I'm thinking that maybe the clear coat has some imperfections or build up that's causing the air to leak.

It could also be that the rims are slightly bent.

For them both to be leaking in the same manner, I'm betting it's a manufacturing defect.

If the leak stays on the same side after flipping the tire then I agree that is probably the best guess.

OK, so I changed the orientation of one of the rear tires so that now the inside is on the outside. The leak moved as well to the outside! I guess that proved that the problem is with the tires. Carefree, I bought the tires from Bob Goodman, I guess I should talk to him and arrange a return the tires to him for replacement (rather than call Hosiers directly)?
Thanks for your all input.

That exact problem happened with some Work wheels. Michelin PS2s held air like a Swiss clock. When I tried some Hoosiers, the fronts leaked like a Russian sub. I tried having them gooped-up to stop the leak with no luck. I put back PS2s and the problem was solved. Japanese rims and American tires don't seem to get along.

Ask for them to be replaced under the "workmanship and material" warranty, if there is such a thing and these tires. Explain the situation and start with Bob, then move to Hoosier if you do not get the answer you want.
Sorry to hear about this because these tires are very addictive. I have ran my Cup tires in 2 sessions since getting Hoosiers and it really makes me appreciate the additional grip.

Here's an update -
I talked with Bob woodman, the tire dealer, and he had sent me 2 fresh rear tires as well as a UPS label to return the two defective ones. I had the tire installed and checked for leaks at Discount Tires; this time no leaks! This confirms our earlier conclusion that the problem was with tires, rather than the wheels.
I still don't know the root cause for the tire failure and whether it was batch related or random.
Bob will return the tires to Hosiers for credit, and maybe he'll learn the root cause. I'll keep you posted if hear anything.
Thanks to all.

Great news to hear! Glad you got setup properly.

However, I would say that your earlier conclusion was SUPPORTED not CONFIRMED. Sorry, that's just the stats prof in me.

That is great news!
They were basically part of a bad batch of molded tires that one side of the tire (in the bead area) did not cure properly.
Glad to hear that Bob took care of you hassle free.
Gotta love the Rennlist community.

I though all Hooters leak? Mine on all cars/rims always have. I was even told that when I went to racing school. I thought it was just a feature of the tire. Hmmm.

Thats funny, all "hooters leak"
It must be through the "stem" or single "point area" of concern.
If you really ment "all hoosiers leak" then you should check for any problems.

cut off all of the little nubs around the bead of the tire (if any). If that still does not work, use silicon (something like GE sillicon II) around the rim. This should help alot. But I suspect is the little nubs around the bead area thats causing your leak.

sqml, my911rs resolved the situation. Please read the thread.
By the way, the bead area of a tire is smooth, always has been, always will be.
