Default Pirelli Rosso's out-of-round?

Last week I installed a set of Pirelli Rosso N5 (235 and 295) on my 2004 GT3.

Over the weekend I had some empty roads: above 130mph and up to top-speed the car starts to shiver No problems below 130mph.

Today I went to the tire dealer where we took the two rear wheels off and onto the balancing machine again. Both are significantly out-of-round, easily visible. The rim is fine, the tire is centred, but the cap of tire moves.

I am quite sure this wasn't the case when they were installed a few days earlier...

Does anyone have similar experiences with the Pirellis? With the Michelin's I didn't have any problem.

Regards
Wolfgang

I have had several sets of N5's without out-of-round issues. However, with tracking, the tires chunked badly and the Rosso label bubbled out on the sidewall.

If all is well below 130 mph, can you not road-force balance the rears to take of the issue?

Hmm, what is 'road-force balancing'? (sorry, I'm not a native speaker and couldn't find it in a dictionary )

Is this the fine-balancing with the wheels mounted on the hub?

The wheels were balanced the 'usual' way with only very small weights needed.

Wolfgang, I have also had defective P0 Rosso with the same symptoms. They were replaced. Apparently the internal belts slipped causing an out of round condition.

Best,

Wolfgang,

You can read more about road-force balancing here:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=40

The Hunter GSP9700 is a road-force balancing machine.

Some debate the merits of road-force balancing. In short, it uses a roller against the tire and can help 'line up' the high point on a tire with the low point on the rim thus compensating for out-of-round conditions within a certain spec.

However, if your tires were fine to begin with then I'd be concerned especially with reports like the one from Bob RE slipped belts.
