Full Cage Installed Mod #2
Just thought I would post up some pictures of my cage install,
lately there seems to be a lot of discussions on the subject
FYI:
I got this car for 80+% track, I was thinking of building a 99 to 02 996
but after running some #, this GT3 was hard to pass up....<-- little blame goes to mooty
So with some help and encouragement from earlyapex, I did not loose sight of safety and installed the cage
I plan on TT and some other stuff...time will tell "Its a fun Ride we will see where it goes"
This has been a fun transition... removal of training wheels is always fun (no PSM) (no C4)
I would really like to THANK those that helped in this, I have been and still am in a good group of people that have been invaluable with some of my decision, mooty, earlyapex, karlooz, all those that post on rennlist
and TC sweet job

Jerry, the car should hit the scales at 2,945 lbs on that configuration with no fuel. I'm assuming that the full cage added 60 lbs. All the interior carpet including the door panels weigh 63 lbs, so it is practically a wash.
I have a set of BBS Magnesium wheels that will be for sale pretty soon (and cheap). They are 44 lbs lighter than the ones you have in the car. Your 19" are 2 lbs heavier per corner than the stock GT3 wheels, but they are 10"/11.5" instead of 8.5"/11". The stock wheels weigh 25/27, the 19" CS 27/29, my old 10"/12" CCW 23/24, the BBS Mag 16/18.
I got that car down to 2,760 lbs for the 2006 SCCA Solo Nationals. Same configuration as yours but no passenger seat, no trunk liners, LW battery, no passenger side airbag, no glovebox, muffler bypass pipes , and CCW wheels with Hoosiers.
Remove all the covers from the trunk, install the lightweight battery, remove the glovebox and the passenger side airbag. Put the airbag cover back and use a double side adhesive so the cover stays in place. This is good for 46 lbs.
The muffler bypass pipes save 45 lbs, but they are not allowed at Laguna Seca.
Ditch the A/C and you get another 34 lbs removed (from the right place).
You can get it down to 2,775 lbs with a passenger seat and the cage (I ran close to this weight with no cage and ,missing a seat).
Next, ditch those heavy doors, and get GT3 Cup doors, that's another 80 lbs removed. Put a Cup lid and CF hood, and that's another 50 lbs. At this point you will be at 2, 645 lbs. A 997 GT3 RS will need 460 Hp to keep up with you in straight line.

I went into TRG a couple days ago while i was up at Wine Country Motorsports to look at the welds on a factory Cup. When i opened the doors to see i couldnt believe how light they were!? I was afraid to shut the door cause i thought it would break. LOL!
Again congrats on the new set up! It looks sick!

don't even think about the cup doors without a full cage. otherwise you have more money than sense. cup car doors have NO intrusion protection and you no longer have side airbags.
