Your modding experience with the 996 GT3 RS ?
Tell me a couple of words about your modding experience with the 996 GT3 RS
I somewhat know what the companies offer but would like to hear some input from the drivers!
I assume the RS is quite a different car than the normal one, so are there what vital parts the RS's suspension needs for hard tracking? Hope not much...Of course some say get a 3-way suspension asap but I want to hear different comments because I'm really interested.
The RS should and could be great next step...

After a few miles, the OEM suspension gets shagged the same as any other GT3. Best to get it replaced with some proper KWs or similar. Quite a few RSes get upgraded over time with the same components as found on regular upgraded GT3s. The next step is not that great... if at all.

you probably could do better financially if you found a properly set up GT3 that has all the right suspension, LWFW and safety stuff...would be a lot cheaper and just as fast if not faster than any stock RS on the track...of course it won't be as rare as the RS but then if you shunt it you won't lose as much...just MHO

i believe the 996 GT3 RS has different front hubs than the GT3 (er..uprights...whatever the official term is) and subsequently, different suspension geometry (i read somewhere on here that the purpose of this is to dial out bumper steer or something vs the other 996's?)
in any case if upgrading from a 996 gt3, these parts arn't cheap.

The parts aren't cheap (are any Porsche parts cheap? ) but...
The differences between the GT3 and RS are massively overwhelmed by the differences in driver ability. You have to be in the top 1-2 percentile of GT3 drivers to be able to drive an RS any quicker than a GT3.

Upgrades I've done to mine and the order in which I did them :
- Alcon Brake Disks (last 20+ trackdays rather than 4 with OEM steels - fitted so I could box the ceramics).
- RS29 pads.
- Toyo R888 tyres.
- Cup diff plates (diff was worn).
- Cup gear linkage cable.
- 997 Shifter mechanism.
- Intrax 4 way titanium suspension.
- MPSC tyres.
Out of that lot, the only thing I don't really rate is the R888s. I kept buying them because they were cheap, but having tried cups the Toyos are definitely far inferior on a GT3 unless its very wet and even then toyos don't exactly clear rain.
As to what you 'need' for hard tracking. The brake disks + pads and some MPSC tyres would be all thats required. Suspension is a revelation, but not necessary at first, the diff is something to do when its worn, and the gear linkage is personal preference (Although its much better). All of these upgrades would be just as valid on a non RS!
