Default 10% Alcohol in Fuel Mandated by Law in Florida

Drat! Looks like the end is near in Florida and we will have to use gas with a minimum of 10% alcohol in the blend.

The end result is it will cost drivers more with reduced mileage and higher fuel costs. Not to mention lower power at the rear wheels.

As long as it's not 10% less fuel economy then why not. Yes, oil is cheap in terms of production cost but if you calculate the military budget to keep that zoo in the Middle East contained into the cost of production then ethanol production cost may be closer. Might as well keep more John Deere workers employed instead of the guys building M1A1s.

As for lower power a GT3 is still going to be fast enough so no big deal here.

Andrei you really have to buy some decent numbers for your car.

I had fun on the track with you, Dave K. and Jim this past week. See you at Tremblant in 10 days.

welcome to the present day... you have my condolences

the good news is that your loosing no more than 1-1.5MPG as per a very indepth article and comparison published by the PCA in Panorama. The bad news is....i dunno, its driving food price up? i'm not quite sure..there is a downside, but it's in the long run?

The higher fuel consumption is a given however why do you believe you will lose power to the wheels?

Do you have a link to any article that confirms this?

A modern ECU will adapt to the EtOH mix and allow for more power. Ethanol has a higher Ocatne rating that normal petrol but less energy content thus giving worse fuel economy.
In Europe we have had the 10% EtOH mix for many years, some racers are converting to run E85 (85% Ethanol) to get some extra enviromentally friendly hp.

I have been averaging 15.2-15.5 with the new crappy fuel. It ridiculous less gas and more expensive.
