Hoosier R6's again...
I've searched around, and found some variation on R6 sizes. I don't want to roll the fenders, and have BBS wheels, with almost exactly stock dimensions.
I think I'll stay w/295's in the rear. Which Hoosiers are the most direct fit for the front?
What pressures are you guys running, Hot/Cold?
Thanks very much.

I run the 245/40 315/30 combo on the BBS Motorsport wheels (9" and 11"). I have no rubbing except in the front at full lock. FYI....you will not like the 295 over the 315.
I run 36-38 HOT as a target all the wall around. Anything at 40 and up you will be sliding all over the place. Start getting below 36 and you will start to really roll the sidewalls.

I run the 295's on my rear OEM GT3 wheels...they could not fit the 315's, I tried...Fronts I run the same as Dell..
+1 on tire temps
Cold = 28-29 Front, 29-30 rear
Hot = 36-37 front 37-38 rear
You'll need to adjust accordingly the cold to get your hot temps accurate..these settings are specific to the track I run (MSR - Cresson)

Thanks Guys!
Actually MSR Cresson is where I'm headed. I hope to be there Friday.
When you tried the 315's would they not fit on the wheel, or did they rub the fender?

The guys at the raceshop were not comfortable mounting the 315's, thought the Tire/Wheel dimensions were too tight...It wasn't based on fender rub or fitting under the fender...
Dell, my experience is that the different tire manufactures sizes vary to some degree and when they measured the hoosiers, they thought it was too large to fit on the wheel...
If my memory serves me correctly, the 315 Hoosiers have a pretty large difference in actual contact area than the 295's (more than other manufacturers by comparison) and I would agree with Dell that he is getting much more grip than I and my 295's probably have more oversteer...But, this is my first set of track tires coming from Mich PS2's....When people ask me the difference, my common remark is I'm bringing a gun to a knife fight....

That's odd considering Nitto, Michelin, Hoosier, etc., ALL rec'd a 11" wheel for a 315/30 tire. Sounds like your shop was not confident in their tire mounting abilities. Either that, or too lazy in case it didn't fit and would have to do another tire.

If anyone has mounted the Hoosier R6 315's to OEM 996 GT3 rear rims, please speak up if it was okay or if you had any issues...Believe me, I'll go to 315's next time if it works...I was told otherwise, so I played it safe...

One more time......I have run several tires (Nitto NT01, Hooser R6, etc) in 315/30 on the stock wheel.

My experiment with wider tires on my C2 may not be transferrable to the GT3's, but I tried 295 rears once (the stock size for the C2 is 285) and didn't like the taller gearing. I found my lap times were 1-2 seconds slower with the 295's so I went back to 285's and deemed the 295 experiment a failure.
My question is for those of you who went to a wider rear on your GT3's..... Did you notice a change in the gearing of the car? Did it have a favorable, neutral, or adverse impact on your car's performance on the track? (I'm assuming favorable or else you would have gone back to the original size like I did) Or should I have altered my shift points to compensate for the taller gearing at the rear end?
I'm assuming the answer is "it depends". There are a couple of tracks here in SoCal where I find myself near the rev limit in a certain gear. If I had taller gearing, I could conintue to accelerate but in these particular instances, there's too little distance to shift up and to shift back down to prep for the next corner. In those situations, I've often thought taller gearing would be nice and the 295's may be of benifit on those tracks (Streets of Willow & Cal Speedway). Then there are other tracks (Willow Sprnigs and Laguna Seca were the two tracks I ran with 295's) that don't work well with the taller gearing in my car.

OK, I'm going with Dell's 245/40 & 315/30.
According to Hoosier's data, the 315/30 circumference is 80.5" compared to 79.5" for their 295/30, so the gearing should only be 1.26% higher (faster/rpm). Hopefully the additional grip will add about that much velocity and put my shift points right back where they were? (+/- 100rpm)

My bad Dell, I read your message incorrectly, I read it as you ran the 315 R6's on the BBS wheel and not OEM GT3's...In that case, should I try to return them and and get the 315's...they only have 8 sessions on them.....I'll be going to 315's next, if they have issues I'll call Dell..
