Default Carbon Hood

I have been thinking about getting a carbon hood for my GT3 here recently. I know the RS came with one from the factory. Does anybody know what the cost of this hood is?

What other options are there besides the factory one and how much do they cost?

Thanks for the info

i have an aftermarket one that was made by TRG/getty. i used it for a bit. fitment isn't perfect so it will need to be adjusted but i'll let it go for 200$+ shipping if you're interested. at the very least you can see how you like the style.
the oem one is quite expensive at 1000$+

Seth,

When I did this homework, the oem rs hood was $5,000 before paint. At the current exchange rates, think $7,500.

The best thing out there is Cargraphics, but still expensive.

Finally I decided on getty design (made in US). They make cf parts for gt1, and offer good quality. If you are cosmetic oriented, it will need a body shop work, but it is very light (6 lbs) and cheap. The stock steel hood weighs 32 lbs.

The oem rs weighs over 10 lbs, before paint (unless your car is white).

Other sources: mashaw, kellymoss, alzen, albertweb, the chinese shop famous for months delays.

I'm also in the market for one. One for sale nearby for $500 for a '98-'01 986 Boxster, but not sure if it would fit my '04 GT3. Anybody know?

I also want a light carbon hood but I have seen the aftermarket hit and miss type of hood.... when they say the hood is slightly off..believe it, it does not align well.

The cf hood on my car is the most beautifully made piece of carbon I have ever seen. It's a pity you have to open the hood to see the actual structure. It's no surprise it's so expensive. OTOH, the mirrors and wing end-caps are about the cheapest and worst wearing cf pieces imaginable.

I agree about the rear wing and sideplates - wear is so bad I thought mine might have been replaced by fakes. Mirror finish is also nothing like the quality shine on after market ones.

Call Sam at Speed Gallery...they have really super light and well made ALL CARBON hoods. Don't know the price, but they were the lightest hoods I've ever seen. Made my carbon/glass hood from Getty feel like a stock steel one!....Lovely lay-up on the carbon as well.

If you want to save some $$ you can have Getty make you a "thin" glass hood. Arnold will make you bits in any thickness you want. I should have done this instead of going for the carbon/glass hood as it weights same as a normal glass hood.

Does the SG hood need pins to hold the hood on?
How was the fit along the seems?

SG's hood is a stock replacement w/stock hardware. My recollection is always a bit questionable. But if memoray serves me right they are about 1/3 the price of other full-on carbon hoods. Again, quality and fit, from what I saw, both on/off car were exceptional.

By the way, no affiliation w/SG....just know what a PITA it is to find the "right" parts.
