Bob 10-4 no worries and you are correct the ones I have seen were in fact oil related. The part that got me thinking was that if impact was severe and I could NOT get out I want to buy as much time as possible. Conservative by nature, guilty.

Works great with alcantara, though.
This is why Chris is getting race seats.

It is something to behold.

I was walking down for a swim in the lake last Monday evening and Louise drove by. Not every day you see a white/black 997 GT3 RS in Calabogie!

Sounded very good too.

I wish somebody made a rollbar mounted fire extinguisher with a remote button and multiple nozzles on malleable lines that can be routed throughout the passenger compartment. If they did, I would buy it in a heartbeat (and I've been thinking of engineering it anyways).

I don't wear a suit but but there is a valid argument that if you're moving at race speeds (and we are in our GT3s) then the worst can happen, and eventually will given enough time. I have a friend who got severely burned in a freak construction accident. Everytime I see him, I'm reminded of how horrible burns can be.

It seems to me the decision to wear non flamable cotton, with long sleeves is admitting to the possibility of fire, and hoping the long sleeves will offer some protection. Perhaps a suit is a better choice.
That said, I only wear a suit as required at private track days, not DEs. I have seen only a few individuals wear suits at our local (and very hot) DEs.

Yes, admitting to the small possibility and using a proportionate amount of protection for the level of threat. I believe the cotton clothing is an insurance requirement. Those insurers must know something to not force racing suits upon the DE crowd.

Some marque clubs (especially equestrian themed ones ) require racing suits but it's mostly to look cool.

I once had a airhead acquaintance of mine at the track and she commented that by not wearing a race suit I looked like a pansy and that real men wore racing suits. I tried to explain to her that those "real men" were the slower guys at that event and that the geezer in chinos and a short sleeve shirt was much faster but that did not impress her. The race suit does impress the bimbos or at least that is what I learned on that day.

I've seen a few car fires at the track (none injury causing), but it's shorts & t-shirts for me along with nomex gloves (leather steering wheel doesn't get sweaty that way) and nomex shoes (xmas gift).

Can I ask how. It seems relevant to this thread.

315s just went the extra mile and said what he was wearing (hans and not just nomex) when he sets foot on the track.

I started the thread and we have some quite mixed views. Safety first but how safe is safe. Please only Doctors of psychology answer that (I'm sure we have a few out there!)
I still haven't been convinced either way, I will agree its rare to have a car fire on a track, I think what got me thinking on this safety issue was my dads old classic (carb) set itself alight a couple of weeks ago, but he was just reversing out of the drive. Car and driver were saved by a £15 car fire extinguisher not a Nomex suit.
One point I would rarely have to worry about is me overheating in a Nomex suit, as most of the time the combination of clouds, temperature, wind and or rain prevent hot humid days occurring in England. (is this the reason we produce so many good racing drivers!!!)
