What's CPO worth?

Same circumstances for me and the dealer through that in for free, but claimed it was worth $3,500 from Porsche.
I think mine is 4 years and good to 100K miles and it starts after the regular warranty ends.

The answer is not entirely simple, and you might want to ask yourself what an additional 2 years of factory warranty is worth to you. It's worth calrifying something... the Porsche Approved Certified Vehicle Program is a 2 year extension (to as much as 100K miles) to the factory 4 year warranty. There is no 4 year extension, for a total of 8 years. So if your example car is an 04, put into service on January 04, then factory warranty goes til Jan. 08 and CPO would take you to Jan. 2010... simple as that.
The main reason it's not simple is primarily because there's no certainty you will be able to secure the Porsche Approved CPO status for any car that doesn't already have it. Typically, it's at the discretion of the dealer to certify a car, and you can imagine that they usually do so as an extra incentive to potential buyers. If the car you are looking at is already CPO, then great. If the car is for sale by private party, then you'll have to see if you can grease a dealers palm enough for them to certify it... this is a hit and miss proposition. If the car is for sale by a dealer, and not currently CPO, then ask make them an offer that is contingent on them certifying the car. If they won't then you may want a PPI done by a 3rd party (including inspection by body shop for repaint or accident damage).
Generally, the little bit of effort (the 100 point inspection is a joke, and again, the decision to certify or not, is at the whim of the dealer) that the dealer actually puts into certifying a car is about $1500 of their time. The actual value is more a mixture of that cost and how much piece of mind it offers you! My car was CPO from a dealer, and his comment to me, was that it represented a $1500-$1800 premium over other non-certified cars.
Tell us how everything plays out with your situation and pics if you buy!!!!

from the Porsche FAQs at: http://www.porsche.com/usa/pre-owned.../approved/faq/
How long is the warranty valid for?
1. If the qualifying Porsche Approved vehicle is purchased while still under the new vehicle warranty, the maximum coverage is 6 years/100,000 miles/160,000 kilometers from the date the car was first delivered to the first retail purchaser, or the date it was first used as a demonstrator, lease, or company car, whichever comes first.
2. If the qualifying Porsche Approved vehicle purchased is outside the new vehicle warranty, the maximum coverage is 2 years from the date of sale or up to 100,000 miles/160,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

I bought an 04 GT3 with 6900 miles and no track time about a month ago..
Dealer told me tht they had done the cpo inspection but not "registered it with Porsche" yet...
I was told that the the CPO cost the dealership $1800.
For my car -- the were asking $84K with out CPO
I paid $80,750 with CPO
They would not move another inch -- I really wanted $79999... no regrets though, love the car.
I had an independent PPI verify condition as I am not sure that the CPO inspection that the dealer does is all that thorough...

At $35K for a new GT3 engine, spending less than 5% for "piece of mind" is well worth it IMHO....
I am currently in the boat of trying to convince a dealer to CPO my car for me....

Only on the Cups.... but I expect now that warranties are expiring this will happen sooner or later with the 'street' GT3...
Good point though Dell.... Seems like our engines really are bullet-proof if maintained properly.

I have no doubt that if taken care of, these suckers could out live us!
FYI....local to me at VIR, Synergy Racing does a full rebuild for about $4500 in labor plus the parts. I am not quite sure what parts costs come to but I can't imagine spending more than 10K total???

I bought my '04 gt3 new. It comes off warranty in a few months. I have it serviced at the dealer where I bought it.
Can I get extended warranty from Porsche? If so, how much $$ ?
Lastly, what is 'CPO'?
TIA, ETC,
