Default PCCB Generation 2 owners!

Tell everything about your brakes please!

Any problems with the Generation 2 ?

Which are the best pads? Are the ones from Porsche any good for agressive use? Can you use Pagid RS19 or only Porsche pads with PCCBs?

I'm driving a tuned 996TT which sees a lot of track time (from tiny circuits to Nordschleife!)
At the moment I'm using stock steel brakes with RS19 pads. They are not that bad but you have to buy new disks every season...

I can get a used set of PCCB gen2 from a 996 GT2 (in good condition).

I really appreciate your knowledge and answers. So, should I get the PCCB Gen2 or just go on and buy a 6-caliper steel kit from Brembo ? Which are the better ones ?

Thanks for the answers...
Really waiting for the season to start next week (with new to me Toyo R888 tires...)

EDIT: Oh nevermind, the deal I could get fell through...

The GT2 has gen one ceramics .... gen2 only on 997....the gen one PCCBs are hopeless most guys who track them have replaced them asthe ceramics overheat and deteriorate rapidly when used hard on track ...Porsche charge £10,000 for a pair of replacement discs!!!! So buy yourself 4 alcon gen2 floating discs with pagid pads for about £3,400 fitted from JZMachtech b etter brakes than ceramics at much much less cost...see previous threads on this....

No problem on gen 1

But evertything can be broken if you dont use things with your head, if tracking your car use a diffrent pad, a pad that are designed for the right purpose

I'm not sure what you're looking for. Greater stopping power or lower cost of ownership?

I have the original Gen 1 brakes on my 03 GT2 with 21,000 road miles. No problem at all. Unbelievable stopping power. Much stronger braking and better feel on the street than the stock steel set-up on a GT3. Plus dramatically less unsprung weight per wheel. Suspension is really nice over the irregularities on the back roads. But not good for the track in terms of durability according to the threads.

21,000 miles -that's great. Are you utilizing the stock yellow pads?

Yup. The original yellow Pagid pads. They have some hairline cracks but I'm told that is okay.

Default brembo

For what its worth i run Brembo floating with six pots and rs29 (Toyo888) and can only say that for tracking they are superb. For road use they do need some heat but are very usable. The ceramic option i am sure would be better on the road but will ultimately be more costly in the long run if you are tracking them!

Changing rotors once a season is not bad. I don't see a problem with it.

I would stay away from PCCB due to crazy cost of rotors.
6-piston + floating rotors and possibly better brake ducts would kick *** track wise.

Forgive my ignorance, do the ceramics require a "special" pad, or can you use any off the self performance pad, ie pagid, pf etc?

Everybody is saying that good aftermarket steel brakes can be as good as the ceramics braking wise but what about the weight?
I mean despite the fact that the ceramic brakes can take enourmous beating without showing any signs of fading, isn't their lightness really the property that makes them so much better than any steel brake system???

Who ever has made the switch from ceramics to steel, were you able to notice the increase in the unsprung weight and rotational mass?? As I would think that 20kg's would make a huge difference when lapping at 10/10s...?

I have the PCCBs on mine and I certainly hope they will last me for longer than just few DE's...

regards,

Juha

After looking at Pagid's site it looks like there's no distinction in pads for ceramics on the GT3. Also moving from a Boxster S with Orange/Yellows, I can use my left over Boxster fronts on the rear of the GT3.
