i've heard that the donut ring you see folks peal off from their necks can be a life saver when using a helmet, as the helmet's wieght works to swing your noodle about, not a good thing. So that donut comes in handy. I will get one next time up for DE.

The donut saved his neck since they hit the tirewall sideways.
Me? I just buy a really really light helmet because I just can't get comfy with the donut.
