Default 996 GT3 Ignition Key

So, has anyone had issues with your key that the red light would stay on constantly? When the light is solid the remote key operation will not turn off/on the alarm or lock/unlock the doors.

First the dealer told me there was probably a problem with the battery and replaced the battery for about $5 which is not a big deal. Well, I had the same issue happen a few days ago with a new battery so I knew the problem was not with the battery. So this time the Dealer said the problem is probably caused by static electricity and I should open the key up take out the battery, turn it a few times and put it back in the key and everything should be fine. I said you got to be kidding -- remember this is a 100K (new) and I have to pull the key apart on some random basis. The person said this was common especially this time of the year.

This never happened on my 996TT or on any other car I owned... Has anyone else had this happen or is the dealer just making excuses to not replace the key?

Sorry to revive a very old thread, but this just happened to me (on a C2). Did it end up being static electricity problem?

No. Just replacing the key battery or what ever the dealer did to the key resolved the issue. I have not had a problem since this was fixed.
