There is definately some truth to that.

I am not looking to sell but have had 2 unsolicited offers in the last couple months over 80K
Maybe because of all the stuff on mine including the Manthey 410 I dont know why they asked.
I watch the market too but I think, just my opinion, it will be a while before pristine low mile GT3s
fall into the 60's. You want one with 30K miles and questionable history from dealer yea maybe.
you want one like mine thats been babied and/or has all the stuff already on it low miles not much
track time-those are not sitting around like 2002 TT's-- there were a 1000 GT3's04/05s in the US Canada and like someone said alot of those have reached the enthusiast owners. The guy that sold me mine
to get a new F430 after 3 months and drop $40-50K in the toliet aren't around anymore(maybe for 997s?-have to have the latest?). I think the prices are stabilizing abit. I dont know if Ebay is a good price check for these cars. Most of the ones I have seen are at dealers (I am not looking everyday- granted) and I dont think I would buy one from there.
I would buy one that I knew the previous original owner to know what kind of history I am dealing with. But thats just me.
I wish the waiters luck though. I remember looking intently for the right one. It was fun.

Here's a perfect example--- my neighbor is selling his '04 GT3

he bought a 997 GT3, so now wants to sell the 996.
His 996 is flawless-- 2500 miles. He's a Porschephile through & through. He just sold his cup car, which he raced extensively. He also just sold his 993 C2 which was nicely modified. He has a very nice 996TT as well.

Point being, here's a car that will be for sale that is owned by a guy who is as into Porsches as anyone could possibly be. The car is properly cared for, properly maintained, never tracked (he had the cup car for that) and has only approximately 2500 miles on it in San Diego. It has the RS CF mirrors, RS CF wing, Euro bumpers without holes in the front, or bumperettes in the rear, painted seatbacks, painted center console, etc.

This is the ideal car for an enthusiast who wants a pristine 996 GT3. I don't think this is a car that will be anywhere near the $70's. I would think it should easily bring mid $80's, but it's hard to say.
It'll be interesting to see how easily he sells it.

I think that the jist of this thread is that the median price of an average GT3 is around $80K. Very low mileage ones with extra equipment will get more, and high mileage or track cars will bring less. Seems like any other late model Porsche out there.

I am certainly not the arbiter of market values when it comes to cars, and of course the market is determined by what just one person is willing to pay. That being said, I think that your car is an average car, as far as GT3s go. After 2 years and 17K miles, I would expect it to be clean, with beautiful paint and mechanically perfect.

If you compare your car to the 970 mile one, I think that you should be about 6~8K less. The Tequipment roll bar may be a negative to some. As far as the extras go, expect to get less than 50 cents on the dollar if you bundle them with the car. You may do better selling them separately.

One of the biggest problems with these cars it that Porsche optioned them way up, and a $125,000 car ends up not being worth much more than a $105,000 car after 2 years. Case in point, my car cost $104,900. It had Xenons, A/C, thicker steering wheel and a little bit of brightwork in the interior. Perfect for a track car, and with the right options for the used Porsche buyer. I got great money for the car when I sold it last year, and about 1/2 of what I spent for all of the extras. It wound up being a good deal for both me and the buyer, but he was the only serious inquiry that I got on the car, and I made the deal right away.

Spring is coming, and I think that the prices will hold until the fall, when the new GT3s prices come down to earth.

Default Sorry for the repost, but......

I previously posted this:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforu...t=316046&page=2

"....I have bought and sold five GT-3s in the past 15 months - data points are as follows:

Sold 11/05, 2004 Silver GT-3, no CPO, no PCCB, 14,000 miles, mint condition, needed nothing - $76,000

Bought 11/05 2004 White GT-3, no CPO, no PCCB, 4,800 miles, mint condition with two extra sets of Fiske wheels, Sparco EVO 2 seats, harnesses - $85k

Bought 10/06 2004 Black GT-3, no CPO, PCCBs, 14,000 miles, excellent mechanical condition, but needed bumper, hood and fender repaint, aftermarket springs and shocks, LWF, RS wing, roll cage, $6k suspension (never used), GT-3 seats, data acquistion, plus all stock parts - $81k

Bought 11/06 2004 White GT-3, CPO, no PCCBs, 5,000 miles, mint condition, GT-3 seats - $80k

Sold 11/06 2004 Black GT-3, no CPO, repainted front hood and bumper, 14,500 miles - $70k to wholesaler

FYI - I am not a dealer

FWIW - Personally, I think the 996 GT-3 is a fabulous car that offers tremendous performance, value and enjoyment, particularly in the $70s (and comparatively to a 997 GT-3). I am always in the market for a good clean one, particularly with under 10,000 miles.

There is a gentleman here in Phoenix selling his 05 Silver on Black GT3 seats, never tracked 6500 miles for $85k. I can post some pics tomorrow from the office.

After this thread I peeked into Dupont regsitry last nite at the grocery store, I do that every other month or so
wasnt too long ago there would be 4-5 996 GT3s in there for sale---this month there are none
(there is a slot for a 997GT3RS though) just a data point and it doesnt mean there wont be 3 or 4 next month-but thats the first one I can remember with out any.

I don't think they are rare by any stretch, they just aren't turning as much. Put a WTB post on the forum for $70-75K and I'm sure cars will turn up. Rare will be defined when the price goes up due to lack of supply which I doubt will happen.

Porsche and rare don't really go together lately. The last car I can think of that fit rare is the 993tt S.
